Robert Fairchild made his Broadway debut in 2015 with his breakout role as 'Jerry Mulligan' in the Tony Award-winning musical AN AMERICAN IN PARIS, which he reprised in London in 2017. He was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Performance By An Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical and the Evening Standard Award for Outstanding Performance, and won the 2015 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Musical, the 2015 Astaire Award for Best Male Dancer, the 2015 Theatre World Award, and the National Dance Award UK. He was also nominated for the 2015 Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance.

There has been a lot of news swirling around stage to screen adaptations in the past few weeks, from Lin-Manuel Miranda directing a TICK, TICK... BOOM! movie, to Diane Paulus directing NBC's HAIR LIVE!, and this Friday, the Disney Channel original movie of the FREAKY FRIDAY musical will premiere.

Broadway Dreams has partnered once again with the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center on the return of their annual Summer Intensive, now in session through August 4, 2018. Lead by an all-star roster of Broadway's brightest stars and industry professionals, Charlotte's rising stars are participating in a week-long intensive focusing on acting, vocal performance and dance. The week culminates in two public performances of a dynamic Broadway-style cabaret, allowing students to perform alongside their Broadway idols.

Only a few prime tickets remain for this weekend's Fire Island Dance Festival, featuring three world premieres, a Tony Award-winning choreographer, a Tony-nominated dancer and performers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet and Paul Taylor Dance Company. Fire Island Dance Festival (#fidance) brings acclaimed dance from an array of styles to a picturesque waterfront stage on the Great South Bay in Fire Island Pines. The festival kicks off with an exclusive Leadership Event this Friday, July 20, and continues with three performances Saturday and Sunday, July 21-22. The event is produced by and benefits Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts held Some Enchanted Evening, the 27th Annual Summer Gala in Sag Harbor on the Long Wharf on July 7, 2018, with Jane Lynch as emcee. The event benefits Bay Street's educational and theatrical programs. The evening included special performances as well as a silent auction, cocktail party, live auction with celebrity auctioneer Richard Kind, dinner and dancing. And due to future restoration of the Long Wharf, this was the final gala to be held there. The theme this year was a Celebration of the Golden Age of Broadway. A star-filled concert kicked off the evening, with songs from the most beloved musicals including South Pacific, West Side Story, On The Town, Carousel, and more, written by the hilarious, award-winning playwright Jonathan Tolins (playwright of Buyer and Cellar and Bay Street's hit comedy The Forgotten Woman). Entertainment included Broadway star and East Hampton resident Howard McGillin (Mystery of Edwin Drood, Gigi, Bay Street's My Fair Lady and Grey Gardens) performing 'Some Enchanted Evening' and 'Something's Coming'; German and Australian star Sarah Bowden (Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, A Chorus Line at the Hollywood Bowl) and Cory Lingner performed 'Whatever Lolo Wants' with special thanks from Mary Callahan and Nicole Fosse from The Verdon Fosse Legacy; choreographer Joshua Bergasse who recreated his Tony nominated staging of 'New York, New York' from On the Town; and Robert Fairchild, former Principal Dancer New York City Ballet and starred in An American in Paris on Broadway performed 'Kansas City'; Phyre Hawkins performed 'Come Rain or Come Shine'; Nick Cearley and Wayne Alan Wilcox performed a medley from Guy and Dolls; Other performers include Bay Street Acting Apprentices Kara Arena, Lewis Elliott, Allison Gray, Meghan LeFlam, Anthony Sims and Phillip Young. The full company sang 'Climb Ev'ry Mountain.' Jane Lynch (two-time Emmy winning host of Hollywood Game Night and an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for her portrayal of Sue Sylvester on Glee) sang 'You'll Never Get Away From Me' with Richard Kind (Amazon's Red Oaks, The Producers, The Big Knife, Mad About You, Spin City, A Bug's Life, Cars, Inside Out, and Bay Street's productions including Enter Laughing, Romance, Travesties, and The Lady in Question). 'It was a wonderful evening and a great way to celebrate our last summer gala on the Long Wharf,' says Scott Schwartz, Bay Street Theater's Artistic Director. 'We will have a new location next year, but we had an amazing music-filled sunset party that supports Bay Street Theater.' 'The annual gala was a wonderful event and Bay Street's only fundraiser of the year,' says Executive Director Tracy Mitchell. 'Besides being a fun night in the theater and on the Wharf, the gala is the cornerstone of our fundraising efforts allowing us to support more than thirty other community organizations on the East End.' Tony Award winner and renowned ballet choreographer Christopher Wheeldon (AN AMERICAN IN PARIS) is now in Hong Kong for the Asian premiere of his short piece 'Rush', originated in 2003 for San Francisco Ballet, now performed by Hong Kong Ballet in their programme WHEELDON, RATMANSKY, MCINTYRE & THE BEATLES, which also features two other pieces, 'Le Carnaval Des Animaux' by Alexei Ratmansky and 'A Day in the Life' by Trey McIntyre with hits by The Beatles.

The 2018 Chita Rivera Awards were handed out last night, May 21 at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. The ceremony was hosted by Orfeh and Andy Karl. BroadwayWorld was in attendance at the big event and you can check out photos from the red carpet below!

At this year's Chita Rivera Awards, actress, dancer, and choreographer Carmen de Lavallade received the second annual Lifetime Achievement Award, iconic composer John Kander received the Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theater as a Composer and legendary theater director and producer Harold Prince was presented with the SDC Director Award for Exemplary Collaboration with Choreographers.

Ghostlight Records has announced it will record the New York City Center production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical Brigadoon, for a new cast recording to be released this fall. Brigadoon has book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Starring Kelli O'Hara, Patrick Wilson and Stephanie J. Block, the show features The Encores! Orchestra, led by Music Director Rob Berman. The cast headed into the recording studio this week. Check out some shots below of the making of the Brigadoon cast recording!

GHOSTLIGHT RECORDS has announced it will record the New York City Center (Arlene Shuler, New York City Center President & CEO) production of Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe's musical Brigadoon, for a new cast recording to be released this fall. Brigadoon has book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. Starring Kelli O'Hara, Patrick Wilson and Stephanie J. Block, the show features The Encores! Orchestra, led by Music Director Rob Berman. The Annual Gala Production was directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, with Jack Viertel serving as artistic advisor. The album is being produced by Kurt Deutsch, Lawrence Manchester, Rob Berman and Emily Altman.

Steven Hoggett, who is represented on Broadway this season with Angels in America and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, will receive the inaugural Douglas and Ethel Watt Critics' Choice Award at the 2018 Chita Rivera Awards

Trafalgar Releasing has announced the North American theatrical release of the highly acclaimed musical, An American in Paris, coming to movie theaters across the USA on Thursday, September 20 and Sunday, September 23.

National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $80 million in grants as part of the NEA's second major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018. Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $10,000 to Broadway Dance Lab in support of its commitment to provide choreographers with free rehearsal space and dancers to assist in the creative process. Art Works is the NEA's largest funding category and supports projects that focus on the creation of art that meet the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and/or the strengthening of communities through the arts.
