The Ring Cycle includes four epic operas totalling 17 hours of performance time, and is known to be the greatest challenge for any opera company, as the most impressive and opulent event in the history of the artform.
Following the resounding acclaim received for Das Rheingold in February 2021, Melbourne Opera continues its triumphant staging of The Ring Cycle, with the cycle's second opera, Die Walküre, premiering on 9 February 2022.
The concert will include excerpts from Tannhaeuser, Tristan und Isolde, Die Walkuere, Lohengrin, The Flying Dutchman and Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg. Soprano Othalie Graham will be featured in the well-known Liebestod from Tristan und Isolde and in dramatic arias from Die Walkuere and Tannhaeuser.
Tickets will be on sale, online only, beginning Saturday, November 27 for Opera Maine's 2022 mainstage production of Richard Wagner's The Flying Dutchman. Starting Monday, November 29, tickets will be on sale by phone, online, and in person at the box office at Merrill Auditorium between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Bryce Davis and Cilliers opened their recital program with Richard Strauss' and John Henry Mackay's uplifting 'Heimliche Aufforderung' ('The Secret Invitation'). This joyous, celebratory composition was the composer's gift to his bride on their wedding day. Bryce-Davis sang it with exquisite vocal colors. Next was Robert Schumann 'Die Lotosblume' ('The Lotus Flower') in which the poet Heinrich Heine described the beauty of the love between the flower and the moon. Bryce-Davis showed the lyric tones of her voice as she told of this delicate love.
