Disney's The Lion King concluded its second triumphant engagement in Dayton on Sunday, July 3 at the Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center. The four-week return grossed over $5 million at the box office and entertained nearly 68,000 patrons during 32 performances. The award-winning musical's four-week premiere engagement in 2011 played a record-breaking run at The Schuster Center.

Broadway's award-winning best musical, The Lion King, will welcome Derek Smith, Cameron Pow and Adrienne Walker as Scar, Zazu and Nala, respectively, beginning performances Tuesday, July 5.

Shanghai Disney Resort celebrated the global premiere of the first Mandarin production of Disney's THE LION KING Tuesday night in a gala affair at the Walt Disney Grand Theatre. Based on the 1994 Disney animated film of the same name, The Lion King tells the story of Simba, a young lion who is supposed to succeed his father Mufasa, as King of Pride Rock. But when Simba's Uncle Scar kills Mufasa, Simba runs away from home after being tricked into thinking that he was responsible. As he comes of age, Simba learns some valuable perspective to go back and take his rightful place as King.

Disney's THE LION KING continues to reign across North America with a sold-out engagement in Tampa, which concluded on Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. The triumphant four-week return grossed more than $5.6 million at the box office and entertained nearly 75,000 patrons during 32 performances.  

Having spawned a Disney movie, The Sleeping Beauty is likely the most well known of ballet's "big three."  Almost every ballet company and ballet school has produced a version of this piece.  American Ballet Theater was founded in 1939 to create a repertory of ballet's best historical works and to create new classics.  In The Sleeping Beauty at The Kennedy Center, Alexei Ratmansky has brought one of the most canonical works in ballet back to its roots.
