The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University announces the programming for THE BILLY STRAYHORN FESTIVAL, September 4 - November 21, celebrating the 100th birthday of the late Billy Strayhorn. The Festival begins with the Chicago Jazz Festival, today, Sept. 4 in Millennium Park, continues at various jazz clubs and locations throughout Chicago and culminates on the Auditorium Theatre's landmark stage Saturday, Nov. 21 with Lush Life: The Music of Billy Strayhorn.

After gracing some of the world's most renowned stages, classically trained singer Branden James makes his return to Chicago this fall, Thursday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. on the Auditorium Theatre's historic stage, 50 E. Congress Parkway.

The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP), celebrating 25 years of creating community through American tap and contemporary percussive arts in world-class, innovative performance, education and outreach programs, welcomed 10-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune at its 25th Anniversary Jubalee Gala. This special evening, hosted by WGN's Dean Richards, took place July 30 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 220 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago. Attended by 270 people, the event raised $212,000 from a combination of ticket sales, silent and live auction proceeds, table sponsorships and individual and corporate contributions.

Auditorium Theatre's Creative Engagement Department Sets Summer Community Initiatives

Closing out the celebration of the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University's 125th Anniversary Season, the Auditorium's Creative Engagement Department announces community initiatives that will continue through the entire summer. The award-winning summer camp "Hands Together, Heart to Art" ("HTHTA") returns for the 11th year July 6 - 31, allowing children ages 7-14 who have experienced the loss of one or both parents the opportunity to use the performing arts to encourage communication, foster emotional growth and provide young people with the consolation of friendship and compassion from their peers and instructors. The theatre will also introduce the new "Brave Face Project," a devised play created to shine light on women's roles in society with performances June 26 - 28 in the Katten/Landau Studio. In a continuing effort to encourage young talent, the Auditorium's "Made in Chicago" Summer Dance Intensive invites dancers (ages 11-18) to take part in a unique opportunity to train with some of the best professional dancers in the city June 29 - July 3 at the Auditorium.
