Student Blog: A Glimpse Into My Dramaturgical Casebook

For my final project in dramaturgy, I created a casebook on the global sensation Come From Away. My 42 page casebook dove into the musical’s development and historical background, production history, and more. However, my favorite part of the casebook was writing a short dramaturg note that would be hypothetically included in the show’s playbill.

The show, which was conceived by William Meade and created by Richard Maltby, Jr., opened on March 12th, 2006 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway. Sadly, it only ran for 57 performances after closing on April 30th of that year. BWW Review: Life Rings With The Alley Theatre's Delirious DEAD MAN'S CELLPHONE

A jovial spirit permeates the Alley Theatre as people pack in for the opening night performance of Dead Man’s Cell Phone, MacArthur Genius Sarah Ruhl’s effervescent, acerbic and poignant play. Director Brandon Weinbrenner offers a talented cast of six actors staged in the circular thrust Hubbard Theatre, actors with a wealth of talent who bend, break, and bow selflessly with brevity to get every single laugh they can out of the audience. And boy, did we laugh! This deliciously delirious production proudly combines surrealism and existentialism with knowing wit and gut-busting physical comedy.
