Summer Stages: BWW's Top Summer Theater Picks - Orlando

While it seems like it has been summer in Orlando since February, officially summer begins in June. As the temperature continues to rise, consider beating the heat by visiting one of our local theaters. Here are my picks for Orlando's coolest summer productions:

SHOUT! to Open 6/20 at Winter Park Playhouse

The Winter Park Playhouse brings back SHOUT! The Mod Musical, June 20-29 and July 10-19, 2014, with performances Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm and select Thursday matinees at 2:00 pm. A special 'Third Thursday' performance is July 10 at 7:30 pm. The preview performance is Thursday June 19, at 7:30 pm.

BWW Interview: Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus Presents LESLIE JORDAN: SHOW PONY Tonight in Palm Springs Premiere

The Palm Springs Gay Men's Chorus (PSGMC) will present Gala 15 and the Palm Springs premiere of Emmy Award winning actor/comedian/stage performer Leslie Jordan's new show titled 'Show Pony' at The Hard Rock Hotel tonight, May 17 at 6:30p.m. I had the chance to sit chat with the hilarious and engaging Mr. Jordan as he prepares for his Palm Springs Premiere - here are a few excerpts from that interview...

Helen Anker and Jeff McCarthy to Lead Guthrie's MY FAIR LADY; Performances Begin 6/28

The Guthrie Theater today announced casting for the production of My Fair Lady, the hummable, quotable, utterly enjoyable musical for the whole family. Playing for the first time at the Guthrie, under the direction of Joe Dowling, My Fair Lady will feature Helen Anker as Eliza Doolittle, Tony Sheldon as Colonel Pickering, Donald Corren as Alfred P. Doolittle - all in their Guthrie debuts - and Jeff McCarthy as Professor Henry Higgins. Performances begin on the Wurtele Thrust Stage on Saturday, June 28. Maxine Linehan to Present Solo Show AN AMERICAN JOURNEY at Terminus Recording Studios, 4/27-5/14

After a sold out performance at Broadway at Birdland, actress/singer Maxine Linehan will next present a limited run of her solo show An American Journey, at Terminus Recording Studios in Time's Square. This world-class studio, where music royalty including Paul McCartney, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, John Legend, Andre Previn and Liza Minnelli have all recorded, will be converted into a unique pop-up cabaret performance space, especially for this event.

Hayes Theatre Co Announces 2014 Cabaret Season

Hayes Theatre Co is thrilled to be hosting experienced masters of the craft of cabaret , such as Mark Nadler, David Campbell and John Bucchino, Rhonda Burchmore and Donna Lee; up-and-coming young stars like Tom Sharah, Gillian Cosgriff, Brendan Hay, Matt Gilbertson, and Hilary Cole; and even a show where the two worlds meet - Phil Scott's collaboration with Blake Bowden, Mario.

Tonight, April 5 and April 6 and 7 get to know these legends even better at Getting to Know You: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lyrics & Lyricists first look at the two songwriters as a team. Guest artistic director, writer and host Ted Chapin, head of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, shares an insider's perspective on the pair, gleaned from his years with the Rodgers and Hammerstein families; joined by vocalists Lewis Cleale, Mandy Gonzalez, Jonathan Groff, Rebecca Luker, and Phillipa Soo.

Surfside Players Presents SHOUT! THE MOD MUSICAL, Now thru 4/19

Surfside Players is proud to present SHOUT! The Mod Musical, opening tonight and running through April 19. Shout! is created by Philip George and David Lowenstein with music by various artists and continuity by Peter Charles Morris. Curtain times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Ivoryton Playhouse to Stage SHOUT! The Mod Musical, 3/19-4/6

A nostalgic nod to London's Swinging Sixties takes to the Ivoryton Playhouse stage from March 19th to April 6th with SHOUT! The Mod Musical. Since the original production debuted off-Broadway in the mid-noughties, this hip musical comedy revue has sold out all over the US and UK and promises to get us all out of hibernation!
