The final production in Aspire Community Theatre's 2018-2019 season is a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo's epic story of love, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.

The Dio - Dining & Entertainment, Livingston County's professional, award winning dinner theatre, is excited to bring the epic musical, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, to the stage, music by Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast), lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell), and book by Peter Parnell.

Theater for the New City, in association with MBL Productions, has announced, today, the cast and creative team for the New York premiere of the new play, Still at Risk by Tim Pinckney (Message to Michael). Performances begin Thursday, March 7, 2019 for a limited engagement through Sunday, March 31, 2019 in the Community Space Theater at Theater for the New City (155 First Avenue, between 9th & 10th Streets).

Book-It Repertory Theatre [Book-It] announces that Founder and Founding Co-Artistic Director Jane Jones and Founding Co-Artistic Director Myra Platt will step down from their roles at the end of Book-It's 30th season, in the summer of 2020. Over the next year, Book-It plans to hire a new artistic director through a local and national search.

Music Theater Works has announced its 2019 season, opening with the Pulitzer Prize-winning HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING (June 8-16), followed by the Chicago professional premiere of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME (August 17-25), LERNER AND LOEWE'S GREATEST HITS (October 4-13), and JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (December 21-31).

In DADA WOOF PAPA HOT, now in its Chicago premiere at About Face Theatre, playwright Peter Parnell explores that nagging question of what it means to have it all. The play centers on a gay couple and their circle of friends. Though Alan (Bruch Reed) and Rob (Benjamin Sprunger) have been together for fifteen years, they've been married for a much shorter period of time and must navigate their shifting identities as partners and as parents of their three-year-old daughter, Nicola. (The play's seemingly nonsensical title refers to her first words and attempt at her parents' names.) The characters in DADA WOOF PAPA HOT are clearly well-off, but that doesn't make the ways in which they struggle with the challenges of daily life and parenthood any less human.

Marriages fail for many reasons, or perhaps, more often than not, it boils down to the fear that you have sacrificed something for that commitment, and you want another chance to get it back. And if you have children, the weight is much greater.

Pandora Productions continues the 2018-19 season with Peter Parnell's funny and touching look at fidelity and gay parenting in DADA WOOF PAPA HOT. The title refers to the first words of the offstage child of Alan and Rob. 'Dada' for Rob, 'woof' for dog, 'Papa' for Alan and 'hot' for radiator. But as Alan explains, if you put those four words together it's 'what every gay dad wants to hear'... No not Elphaba from Wicked nor Shrek or The Elephant Man, but Quasimodo, the underdog locked in the cathedral who spends his life dreaming of a better one.

Following his inspired direction of THE ELEPHANT MAN, Zao Theatre's artistic director, Mickey Bryce, returns to themes that address the essence of humanity and expose societal hypocrisy in an equally moving and uplifting production of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME.
