OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES to Close Off-Broadway, Sept 15; Heads to Chicago, Sept 24

Producers announced today that off-Broadway's OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES will close on Sunday September 15. It will have played 22 previews and 552 regular performances. As previously announced, a Chicago production will begin performances at the Royal George Theatre on September 24 and open on October 2.

Stephen Sondheim & Wynton Marsalis Collaboration, A BED AND A CHAIR: A NEW YORK LOVE AFFAIR to Play City Center in November

Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis will collaborate on A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Affair, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, with choreography by Parker Esse and musical supervision by David Loud, was conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle, and will run for seven performances, November 13 - 17 at City Center.

TV: Richard Levine Named Funniest Printer at OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES!

Just last week, the winner of an Old Jews Telling Jokes contest for the Funniest (Fill in the Blank) got the chance to tell his joke on stage at the end of the show at the Westside Thetare. The winner was funnyman Richard Levine, who won the title of the Funniest [Retired] Printer. BroadwayWorld was there for the special occasion and you can check out the joke below!

The Broadway production 'Old Jews Telling Jokes' came to the Friars Club last night for an evening full of laughter produced by Michelle Slonim. Creators Sam Hoffman and Peter Gethers gave an interesting talk and video presentation about the shows formation. Marilyn Sokol and Lenny Wolpe from the cast of 'Old Jews' told some side splitting jokes from the show. Stewie Stone 'head comic' at the Friars had some of his own hilarious stories and also introduced various Friars who contributed to the joke telling.

Stephen Sondheim and Wynton Marsalis will collaborate on A BED AND A CHAIR: A New York Love Story, a new musical event featuring Sondheim's music arranged and performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, announced Arlene Shuler, President & CEO of New York City Center. This Encores! Special Event, directed by frequent Sondheim collaborator John Doyle, and conceived by Peter Gethers, Jack Viertel and John Doyle, will run for seven performances, November 13 - 17 at City Center. City Center's annual Gala Benefit will take place on Thursday, November 14 and will include a post-performance dinner at the Plaza Hotel.

The producers of the hit Off-Broadway show OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES have announced that the upcoming engagement at Chicago's Royal George Theatre will feature a quintet of familiar (and not-so-old) faces: Dara Cameron, Alex Goodrich, Tim Kazurinsky, Renee Matthews and Gene Weygandt. OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES begins performances on the Main Stage of the Royal George Theatre, 1641 N. Halsted Street, Tuesday, September 24, and officially opens Wednesday, October 2, at 7:30p.m.

Cast members from the off Broadway hit OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES visited ABC TV's "The Chew" yesterday. Master chefs Mario Batali and Michael Symon prepared Spicy Fried Cornish Hens, and invited master joke teller Todd Susman to tell a chicken joke! OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES to be Featured on THE CHEW, 12/11

Tune into ABC TV's "The Chew" tomorrow Tuesday December 11 at 1 PM to see cast members from the off Broadway hit OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES as they lend some Hanukah expertise to the proceedings. Marilyn Sokol, currently featured in OLD JEWS TELLING JOKES, will be a guest on WBAI Radio (99.5 FM) tomorrow, Saturday October 6 in the 9 AM hour. The Emmy Award winner will chat with host David Rothenberg about the off Broadway hit, and about her career, which includes such highlights as flashing the audience on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (by mistake), being both a voice and puppeteer on Sesame Street, and having her Dial-A-Jokes on record at The Smithsonian Institute.
