Today the RSC announced the death of Sir Antony Sher, Honorary Associate Artist and husband of Artistic Director, Gregory Doran. Antony was diagnosed with terminal cancer earlier this year with Gregory taking compassionate leave from his role in September to care for Antony.

Nottingham Playhouse has announced that Piaf – starring Jenna Russell - will finally be performed this summer as theatres begin to reopen across England.

March is the month in which both Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim celebrate their birthdays and on the same date (March 22), albeit 18 years apart. To mark the occasion, we are givng over four weeks to honour some of their finest moments on the London stage, taking each composer in turn to fete five memorable productions and then five outstanding performances. And so, below are five Lloyd Webber stagings that I shall long remember, several of which (COVID permitting) may be back amongst us in due course.

The stars of Piaf - which should have been performed at Nottingham Playhouse and Leeds Playhouse this spring - have come together for an exclusive performance of Hymne a L'Amour. The piece, initiated by Director Adam Penford and Musical Director Alex Parker, gives audiences an exclusive taste of what to expect from the postponed production.

Shandyland opens at Northern Stage (12-23 May), and after its Newcastle premiere will tour to Everyman, Liverpool (27 May - 6 June)

Nottingham Playhouse and Leeds Playhouse have announced more of the casting for their upcoming co-production, Piaf. It includes the news that Sally Ann Triplett is set to reunite with friend Jenna Russell for their first performance together since 1987, in the West End premiere of Sondheim's seminal musical, Follies.

Tony nominee and Olivier Award-winner Jenna Russell will play French singer Edith Piaf, in a new play, Piaf, at Nottingham Playhouse.
