Stage Raw Announces Its 2017-2018 Theater Award Recipients

The 2018 Stage Raw Theater Awards celebrate excellence on the Los Angeles stages in venues of 99-seats or under. This fourth annual edition included productions that opened between January 1, 2017 and May 31, 2018. Stage Raw is a community funded professional journalism website that was created in response to the decline of arts coverage in local mainstream and alternative media.The Awards ceremony was held Monday night, August 20, at Los Angeles Theatre Center, 514 S. Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles, hosted by Coeurage Theatre Company, and co-directed by Jer Adrianne Lelliott, Thaddeus Shafer and Lauren Ludwig. Winners notated in red below.

Miller Theatre at Columbia University School of the Arts opens its 30th Anniversary 2018-19 Season and launches its new Chamber Opera Commissioning Initiative with the New York Premiere of PROVING UP, adapted from the short story "Proving Up" by Karen Russell.

MOON& By Szalt (dance Co) Begins At The Ford Theatres, 8/26

The Ford Theatres presents the world premiere of moon& by szalt (dance co) on Sunday, August 26 at 8:30pm as part of its IGNITE @ the FORD! series.  Mirrored by the eight phases of the moon, moon& is a new evening-length work by szalt (dance co.)'s Founding Artistic Director Stephanie Zaletel. The piece will premiere under the light of the full moon and will feature an all-female company of six world-class dancers paired with electro-acoustic composers Louis Lopez and Jonathan Snipes performing live.

Memory and Collective are the key words here. The performance is a collaboration, explored and presented from Memories of survival; old, new, brand new, collectively or individually. It is an evening of intertwining, sharing, searching, feeling, expressing and truth. It signifies also, to me, what is needed in our government structure today... a true conglomeration of all aspects to arrive at the best possible conclusion that will be of most benefit to ALL.

The Latinx Theatre Commons (LTC) proudly presents the 2018 LTC Carnaval of New Latinx Work (Carnaval 2018: ConeXion!) featuring readings of six new Latinx plays paired with Latinx directors, actors, designers and dramaturgs at The Theatre School at DePaul University, 2350 N. Racine, Chicago, 19-21 July 2018. Carnaval 2018: ConeXion! is dynamic event celebrating the abundance of Latinx talent in the U.S. theatre field. Additionally, Carnaval participants are able to experience Chicago's rich Latinx theatre community through events created by local Latinx theatre companies Urban Theater Company, Aguijon Theater, Teatro Vista, and the Chicago Latino Theater Alliance.

The production is directed by Julia Rosa Sosa and will be performed in Spanish, with English subtitles, by TPC ensemble members and will run February 22 - March 10, 2018, in CPT's historic Gordon Square Theatre.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival 2018 Season Opens 2/23

The Tony Award-winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival will launch its 83nd year with preview performances beginning on February 16. The 2018 season officially kicks off Friday night, February 23, in the Angus Bowmer Theatre with Shakespeare's Othello (director, Bill Rauch). On Saturday afternoon, Shakespeare's Henry V (director, Rosa Joshi) opens in the Thomas Theatre, and the West Coast premiere of Kate Hamill's adaptation of Jane Austen's novel Sense and Sensibility (director, Hana S. Sharif) opens that evening in the Angus Bowmer Theatre. On Sunday afternoon, Karen Zacarias's Destiny of Desire (director, Jose Luis Valenzuela) will be staged in the Angus Bowmer Theatre.
