BWW Review: Big Love for AS YOU LIKE IT at the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre

At the crossroads of the Bard and Beatlemania lies the fantastic As You Like It. Full disclosure: I’m smack-dab in the middle of the target audience, where the Shakespeare-loving (or at least willing) meet Beatles fans. But I believe this genre-mashup would be terrific fun for anyone. The show takes a classic Shakespearean rom-com and threads Beatles songs throughout. And yes, it totally works.

BWW Review: I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES Is Both Sweet and Saucy

Desert Theatreworks has produced another winner: Neil Simon’s I OUGHT TO BE IN PICTURES. This story, with its emphasis on rekindling father-daughter love, is deeper than many of his plays. The two casts make the audience care about the characters. Director Daniela Ryan has done a superb job of coaxing brilliant performances from both.

BWW Review: MOORCROFT, Tron Theatre, Glasgow

Garry’s turned 50 but doesn’t feel like celebrating. Exhausted from years spent wrapped in regret, he begins to relive ‘the glory days’ trying to understand his mistakes, answer questions and right some wrongs in a bid to make peace with his past and find renewed purpose.

Natalia M. King Releases New Album 'Woman Mind of My Own'

With original songs like “AKA Chosen,” honoring strong personal choices and acceptance of her sexuality. The slow and sultry slide guitar of another, “Play On,” matches the soulful timbre of her bluesy vocals. She also offers a hard look at American reality with her reimagination of John Mellencamp’s “Pink Houses,” featuring Elliot Murphy.

Playwright Jeremy O. Harris’s critically lauded SLAVE PLAY just opened February 16, 2022, at the Mark Taper Forum receiving a thunderous standing ovation. BWW Interview: Aleks Pevec & Justin Michael Wilcox of SOMETHING ROTTEN! at Fred Kavli Theatre

It's always nice when we see a show that has never been performed in Ventura County so we were looking forward to seeing 5-Star Theatricals' Something Rotten!, the 2015 sendup of Shakespeare that answers the question: 'What if Shakespeare had a rival?' As you will read in our upcoming review in The Acorn, we were not disappointed. Something Rotten! is a riotous romp with a twisted premise, as brother Nick and Nigel Bottom attempt to upstage (literally) theatre superstar Willie Shakespeare with their next production: the first musical. Due to the faulty efforts of a befuddled Nostradamus, the Bottom Brothers set out to produce their musical, titled Omelette. Recently, we visited with two stars from 5-Star's production: Justin Michael Wilcox, who plays Nick Bottom, and Aleks Pevec, who plays the strutting Shakespeare.
