The Flea announces Writers Residency Initiative, Applications Due 2/26

The Flea Theater, Niegel Smith, Artistic Director and Carol Ostrow, Producing Director announced today the expansion of their resident artist program which will now include playwrights.

In response to popular demand, Soho Rep. (Sarah Benson, Artistic Director; Cynthia Flowers, Executive Director) extends the world premiere of Aleshea Harris's Relentless Award-winning Is God Is, directed by Taibi Magar by two weeks, through March 25. In this play, which dauntlessly cracks jokes as it eviscerates, twin sisters Anaia (Alfie Fuller) and Racine (Dame-Jasmine Hughes) undertake a murderous journey from the Dirty South to the California desert, seeking payback for a horrendous act. Is God Is treats both morality and genre as notions to be exploded, drawing on the ancient, the modern, the tragic, the Spaghetti Western, hip-hop and Afropunk in its subversion of theatrical constructs.

The American Dance Festival (ADF) will award the 2018 Balasaraswati/Joy Anne Dewey Beinecke Endowed Chair for Distinguished Teaching to two central figures in the breaking community, celebrated hip-hop dance artists Ana 'Rokafella' Garcia and Gabriel “Kwikstep” Dionisio. A ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Time and location TBD.

Following the matinee performance of Broadway's The Parisian Woman this Saturday February 3, Uma Thurman and cast members will be joined on stage for a Q&A moderated by Ilana Levine, host of the popular podcast, "Little Known Facts." The Parisian Woman, the electrifying new play by House of Cards creator Beau Willimon, directed by Tony Award winner Pam MacKinnon (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Clybourne Park) and starring Academy Award nominee Uma Thurman in her Broadway debut, begins performances tomorrow Thursday, November 9 at the Hudson Theatre (141 West 44th Street). Opening night is set for Thursday, November 30.

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced the complete list of the 2017 award recipients tonight at the 33rd annual Bessie Awards ceremony. Awards were presented in the categories of Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition/Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design, with additional awards presented for Lifetime Achievement in Dance and Outstanding Service to the Field of Dance. Playwright Beau Willimon plans to update the play on a weekly basis to keep up with current political events as well as with President Trump's controversial tweets

The producers of The Parisian Woman, the electrifying new play by 'House of Cards' creator Beau Willimon, announced today that Marton Csokas (Loving, The Lord of the Rings) and Tony Award nominee Phillipa Soo (Hamilton, Amelie) will join Uma Thurman, Josh Lucas and Blair Brown to complete the cast, playing the characters of 'Peter' and 'Rebecca' respectively. Mr. Csokas will be making his Broadway debut.
