For its second season, Refuge Theatre Project will continue its mission of showcasing the work of a new generation of musical theater writers. Company co-founders Ross and Morgan Glynn Egan announced today that the season will open with High Fidelity -- the musical based on Nick Hornby's 1995 novel and on Stephen Frears' 2000 feature-film adaptation that starred Chicago natives John Cusack, Joan Cusack and Lili Taylor.

The critically acclaimed off-Broadway hit THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY, written by and starring James Lecesne, the writer of the Academy Award-winning film Trevor, begins a limited 23 performance engagement at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, tonight, January 13. The show runs through January 31, 2016 (press opening Thursday January 14).

Today, the finalists for USC Libraries' 28th annual Scripter Award were announced. The prize recognizes the year's best adapted screenplays and the author or authors of the written work upon which the screenplay is based.

Directed by John Crowley, BROOKLYN is a beautifully crafted, cohesive film. Though subtle, it is richly layered. The incredibly contained story, scripted by Nick Hornby, is circular, reminding us in multiple places and ways that Eilis' story (both as an immigrant story and a coming of age story) is not unique.
