The 2019-2020 seasonwill include the powerful 6-time Tony Award-winning GYPSY (November 9 - December 8, 2019), the hysterical 10-time Tony Award-nominated THE FULL MONTY (February 15 - March 15, 2020), the game-changing Tony Award-winning Best Musical A CHORUS LINE(April 11 - May 10, 2020) and Lin-Manuel Miranda's pre-HAMILTON career-making Tony Award-winning Best Musical IN THE HEIGHTS(July 11 - August 9, 2020). GYPSY and THE FULL MONTY will perform at San Francisco's Alcazar Theatre (650 Geary Street, San Francisco, CA 94103) and A CHORUS LINE and IN THE HEIGHTS will perform at San Francisco's Victoria Theatre (2961 16th Street, San Francisco, CA 94103). After eight seasons presenting its critically acclaimed 'Broadway Under the Stars' musical revues, Transcendence Theatre Company announces the presentation of its first production of a Broadway musical.

On February 6th Antonio Banderas announced his new project: he will open the new Teatro del Soho Caixabank in Malaga, Spain, and the first show to run in it will be A CHORUS LINE. Today, Banderas, who will co-direct and co-star in the production, has announced auditions for the musical.

The lack of permanence that allows new artists endless chances to bring their own interpretations to classic material is the most significant aspect that separates live theatre from movies and television. But in musical theatre, it's sometimes the case that a director/choreographer such as Jerome Robbins or Bob Fosse may create visuals that become so indelible in the public's mind that they become fixtures of most remountings. In the case of A CHORUS LINE, it's the whole show.

A CHORUS LINE, the hit musical about dancers auditioning for a Broadway show played for 6,137 performances in its original run and, depending on who you ask, there are numerous reasons for that. First, and foremost, audiences connected with the people on stage and their experiences. They saw their own wishes and dreams played out through the diverse and talented group of people assembled. The second reason is because it offers a unique variety of energetic musical numbers (with some amazing dancing, naturally) interspersed with dramatic monologues that get at the heart of the human condition. And third, and probably most importantly - it is simply a wildly entertaining musical. I am pleased to say that all of these elements (and more!) are present in the current production of A CHORUS LINE at the Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton, CT.

The groundbreaking musical was nominated for twelve Tony Awards, winning nine, and took home the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Forty-three years later, it remains a classic for elevating the nameless boys and girls who toil on the line to marquee status. Without the singers and dancers in the chorus, there could be no musical theater; and without musicals, the theater world would be a quieter, more subdued place.
