The Old Globe Celebrates New Voices In The Community

The Old Globe announces its inaugural New Voices in the Community series: free public performances at libraries across San Diego County, followed by conversations with the playwrights and experts in the community. The first New Voices in the Community features three solo shows by women: Hold These Truths by Jeanne Sakata, "A" Train by Anne Torsiglieri, and Unveiled: A One-Woman Play by Rohina Malik.

GOOD GRIEF Begins Previews Tomorrow At Vineyard Theatre

The New York premiere of Ngozi Anyanwu's GOOD GRIEF, directed by Awoye Timpo, will begin performances the Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street) on Thursday, October 11.  Opening night is set for Tuesday, October 30th.

The Playwrights Realm Announces 2018-19 Writing Fellows

Over the past twelve years, The Playwrights Realm, led by Founding Artistic Director Katherine Kovner and Producing Director Roberta Pereira, has continually produced work by brave new voices and expanded its commitment to providing holistic support to playwrights striving to make a life in the arts. With its 2018-2019 Writing Fellowship, The Playwrights Realm is proud to grant a career-propelling honor to four tremendously talented playwrights exhibiting drive and commitment to the form: Bleu Beckford-Burrell (Lyons Pride), Sarah Einspanier (I LOVE SEAN), Keelay Gipson (#NewSlaves), andElse C. Went (Saving Throw).

Applications Are Now open for The Drama League's Directing Fellowships

The Drama League opened its applications today for the 2019 Directors Project Fellowship Programs, which offer unique opportunities for early and mid-career stage directors to advance their artistry, learn new skills, stage new work, and develop their careers.  The only program of its kind in the nation, it boasts 12 different fellowships, including a new initiative in community-based theater and a new immersion in the development of new musicals.  The deadline for completed applications is 12:00 p.m. (US EST) on Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

UNCLE VANYA Extends Through October 28th At Hunter Theater Project

The Hunter Theater Project at Hunter College (President, Jennifer J. Raab) announced a two-week extension today for the critically acclaimed New York premiere of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA, directed by Richard Nelson, at the Frederick Loewe Theater (E. 68th Street between Lexington and Park Ave). Translated by Richard Nelson, Richard Pevear, and Larissa Volokhonsky, and directed by Nelson, UNCLE VANYA began performances on Friday, September 7 and was originally scheduled to run through October 14.

San Francisco Playhouse Presents GRAVEYARD SHIFT

San Francisco Playhouse will celebrate the opening of the 10th Season of its Sandbox Series with the original production of graveyard shift, written by Korde Arrington Tuttle. Melissa Crespo will direct.

THE COLOR PURPLE Begins Performances Tonight At Paper Mill Playhouse

Paper Mill Playhouse (Mark S. Hoebee-Producing Artistic Director), recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award in 2016, launches its 80th milestone season with The Color Purple, directed by Tony Award-winner John Doyle. The Color Purple is the Tony Award-winning musical revival based upon the novel written by Alice Walker and the Warner Bros./Amblin Entertainment motion picture with a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis, and Stephen Bray. Cast members from the 2015 Broadway revival lead the Paper Mill Playhouse company, including Adrianna Hicks (Aladdin, Sister Act - Germany) as Celie, Carla R. Stewart (Ghost - National Tour, Rent - Regional) as Shug Avery and Carrie Compere (Holler If You Hear Me, Shrek the Musical - National Tour) as Sofia.

Ben Platt originated the title role in 'Dear Evan Hansen' to critical acclaim (Obie Award, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League nominations) and won the 2017 Tony Award for his Broadway performance. Platt was the original Elder Cunningham in the Chicago production of 'The Book of Mormon' and reprised the role on Broadway (dir. Trey Parker and Casey Nicholaw).

Jane Kaczmarek And Kate Burton Star In Staged Reading Of KINDERTRANSPORT By Diane Samuels

Acclaimed actresses Jane Kaczmarek ("Malcolm in the Middle") and Kate Burton ("Gray's Anatomy") star in a staged reading of the riveting drama Kindertransport  by Diane Samuels presented by the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in conjunction with producers Patty Glaser, Paula Holt, Perla Karney and Karen Winnick on Sunday, November 11, 2018, 2 pm, in the Bram Goldsmith Theater at The Wallis. Directed by Deborah Lavine, the "moving, thought-provoking play," (Variety)inspired by one of the lesser known but most moving stories of the Holocaust explores the life of a child saved during the Kindertransport, the British humanitarian effort that rescued nearly 10,000 Jewish children prior to World War II. The performance celebrates the 80thAnniversary of the Kindertransport and a portion of proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust.

Raul Esparza Will Star in Classic Stage Company's THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARTURO UI

Classic Stage Company will begin its 2018-2019 season with an unsettlingly timeless work: Bertolt Brecht's allegorical depiction of the rise of fascism, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui. Today CSC announced that four-time Tony Award nominee and Law and Order: SVU alum Raul Esparza will star as the Al Capone-like, Hitler-paralleling Arturo Ui in this production.

La Jolla Playhouse Announces Cast/Creative Team For HUNDRED DAYS

La Jolla Playhouse announces the cast and creative team for Hundred Days, book by The Bengsons and Sarah Gancher, music and lyrics by The Bengsons, directed by Anne Kauffman, with movement direction by Sonya Tayeh. Nominated for a 2018 Lucille Lortel Award, Hundred Days runs in the Playhouse's Mandell Weiss Forum September 22 - October 21.
