ArtsBridge Foundation, producers of the Shuler Awards, is bustling with activity as they prepare for the 10th Anniversary of the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards. 75 high schools across the state enrolled in this year's program. From those schools, 32 students have been selected to be part of the prestigious S.T.A.R. Council. These students have worked hard behind-the-scenes at their school's theatrical productions, and they will serve as Production Assistants during the Shuler Awards. Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) will air the awards show live on its nine-station statewide network from the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on Thursday, April 19.
The League of Chicago Theatres, Goodman Theatre, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Broadway In Chicago and competition organizer Derrick Sanders announce the three Chicago finalists for the 9th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition: Nia Safro from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (first place, performed Molly, Joe Turner's Come and Gone); Chisom Chima from Nicholas Senn High School (second place; performed King, King Hedley II); and Evan Simpson from Chicago High School for the Performing Arts (third place, performed Youngblood, Jitney). The top three Chicago finalists were awarded scholarships in the amount of $500, $250 and $100, respectively. The top two winning students will receive expenses paid to travel to New York City for the National Finals, where they will compete on May 7, 2018.

A couple of weeks ago when five-time Tony nominee Jan Maxwell died, I assumed the marquees of Broadway theaters would be dimmed. I emailed the Broadway League--the association of theatre owners and producers who issues press releases on such things--to ask 'when' it would happen.
