Merola Opera Program’s 2023 Summer Festival comes to a triumphant conclusion with the Merola Grand Finale, featuring all of this year’s young artists performing a dazzling array of opera’s most brilliant arias, duets, and more, on the stage of the War Memorial Opera House. Conducted by Maestro Kelly Kuo and directed by 2023 Merola Stage Director Tania Arazi Coambs, this evening showcases the extraordinary talent of the 2023 cohort.

Merola Opera Program continues its 2023 Summer Festival with a fully staged production of Benjamin Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia, approached through a current lens.

On Saturday evening, May 6, 2023, at the Liederkranz, the establishment of Marshall Opera, New York City’s newest opera company, was announced.

While there’s always a great deal of talk about where the next generation of operagoers is coming from, there’s much less hand-wringing about the sources of the new generation of singers. After hearing the Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition’s Grand Finals Concert at the Met on Sunday afternoon, we could plainly hear that the future of the Met roster is alive and well and waiting to take center stage.

The Met presents the winners of the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition: tenor Anthony León, mezzo-soprano Natalie Lewis, soprano Teresa Perrotta, mezzo-soprano Sarah Saturnino, bass-baritone Christian Simmons, and soprano Meredith Wohlgemuth.

Following this week’s semifinal competition, ten singers have advanced to the final round of the 2023 Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition. The finalists will compete on the Met stage on Sunday, April 23, at 3PM ET, hosted by Latonia Moore, the 2000 Grand Finals–winning soprano and star of the Met’s new production of Terence Blanchard’s Champion.

In a harmonic convergence that crosses cultural frontiers and breaks a centuries-old glass ceiling, The Cecilia Chorus of New York presents Skye, Bartók, von Martines, and Mozart, April 28 at 8:00 PM in Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall on 57th Street in Manhattan. The performance will be with chorus, soloists, children's choir, and orchestra. All three soloists will make their Carnegie Hall debut, including 2023 Houston Grand Opera winner Natalie Lewis.

Veteran Nashville actress Linda Speir will make her Larry Keeton Theatre debut as the matriarch in Del Shores' Daddy's Dyin'…Who's Got the Will, the next production on the stage of the Donelson theater, running April 20-May 6.
