Taylor Mac to Receive 2017 Booth Award

Join us for an evening celebrating the groundbreaking work of Taylor Mac, American actor, playwright, performance artist, director, producer, and singer-songwriter. Mac's 24-hour, 246-song marathon performance, A 24-Decade History of Popular Music, was hailed by Wesley Morris in the New York Times as "one of the greatest experiences of my life" and was recently named the 2017 recipient of the Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History.

Kennedy Center to Livestream EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS Preview

As part of the kick-off event for the 2016 Kennedy Center (KC) American College Theater Festival, a special preview of the EVERY 28 HOURS PLAYS will be performed and livestreamed as part of KC's Millennium Stage Series. The preview consists of an excerpt of the collection with more than 30 one-minute plays inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, with participation by theater makers and institutions across the nation and showcases the creative outcome of a community outreach residency in Ferguson and St. Louis County, Missouri in the fall of 2015.

Judith Sloan is a masterful actor/dialectition and a sublime mixologist of sound. She blends both gifts in her newest play, 'YO MISS!,' in which she channels her own family's traumas through the experiences of immigrant and minority teens whom she has taught in arts programs over the last two decades.

Nilo Cruz, Lisa Loomer, Octavio Solis & More Set for Hero Theatre's FESTIVAL IRENE

Pulitzer-winning writer of Anna in the Tropics, Nilo Cruz, will be one of the playwrights featured in Hero Theatre's Festival Irene: Celebrating the Legacy of Maria Irene Fornes. The festival will include some of Fornes' most celebrated plays and feature works from some of her former students. Other Award-winning playwrights and former Fornes students that are part of the festival include Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas (Bird In the Hand), Migdalia Cruz (Miriam's Flowers), Lisa Loomer (Distracted), Eduardo Machado (The Cook), Cherrie Moraga (Heroes and Saints), Octavio Solis (Lydia) and Caridad Svich (Antigone Project).

Hero Theatre to Host Maria Irene Fornes Play Festival

Hero Theatre announced today that the company's 2016/2017 season will commence with Festival Irene: Celebrating the Legacy of Maria Irene Fornes. The festival of plays will be presented as staged readings. It will include some of Fornes' most celebrated works in addition to featuring plays written by some of her students who are amongst some of the most prominent Latina/o writers in America today. Esteemed dramaturg, literary agent and founder of This Distracted Globe Consultancy, Morgan Jenness, will serve as consultant on the project.

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater and piece by piece productions have announced that the The Reverend Micah Bucey will moderate a post-show panel discussion following the performance of the world premiere play Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, America, Kuwait, written and directed by Daniel Talbott, tonight, June 16, at The Gym at Judson, 243 Thompson Street. The panelists will include Greg Grandin, Morgan Jenness, and Michael Ratner.
