COFFEEHOUSE CHRONICLES #132 "TALKING BAND" features live performances, archival material and panelists Ellen Maddow, Harry Mann, Isaac Maddow-Zimet, Anya Maddow-Zimet, Lizzie Olesker, Tina Shepard, Jack Wetherall, and Paul Zimet. Talking Band has been making innovative and influential theater works in New York for over 40 years. Collectively, the founders have earned 11 OBIE awards and numerous other honors. The company has performed at many of New York City's celebrated downtown venues, including La MaMa, PS 122, Theater for the New City, Dance Theater Workshop, The Ohio Theater, The Flea Theater and HERE Arts Center. Nearly 50 of its original productions have toured the United States and the world. Notable productions include Burnished by Grief - A Romantic Comedy, The Golden Toad, Marcellus Shale, The Walk Across America For Mother Earth, Bitterroot, Radnevsky's Real Magic, Painted Snake in a Painted Chair, Black Milk Quartet and The Three Lives of Lucie Cabrol. Moderator Morgan Jenness spent over a decade at the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater with both Joseph Papp and George C. Wolfe in various capacities ranging from Literary Manager to Director of Play Development to Associate Producer. Ms. Jenness was Associate Artistic Director at New York Theater Workshop and an Associate Director at the Los Angeles Theater Center in charge of new projects. In 2003, Ms. Jenness was presented with an OBIE Award Special Citation for Longtime Support of Playwrights. She is also the recipient of a 2015 Duke Impact Award and the GE Lessing Award from LMDA.

Founded by Ellen Stewart in 1961, La MaMa is recognized as the seedbed of new work by artists of all nations and cultures. It is the place where emerging artists learn from established artists and where artists from around the globe share work and ideas. To date, La MaMa has presented artists from over 70 nations. Each season, La MaMa offers more than 100 presentations and reach an audience of more than 32,000 people of all ages and all backgrounds.

Sam Shepard, Blue Man Group, Lanford Wilson, Philip Glass, David and Amy Sedaris, Whoopi Goldberg, Meredith Monk, Harvey Fierstein, Diane Lane, and Joel Zwick are just a few of the artists who began their careers at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in the heart of Manhattan's East Village. La MaMa has been honored with more than 30 Obie Awards and dozens of Drama Desk Awards, Bessie Awards and Villager Awards. La MaMa has become a world-renowned cultural institution that is home to three theaters, an art gallery, rehearsal studios, a visiting artist dormitory, office space, and an extensive archive documenting the history of Off-Off Broadway.
