PETER AND THE STARCATCHER Sails To The Jersey Shore
by Stephi Wild - Sep 19, 2022

The Gateway Playhouse hosts the Shaken Not Stirred Players this fall with a swashbuckling and hilarious show. Based on the book series by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, Peter and the Starcatcher gives us insight on how an orphan boy with no name becomes 'Peter Pan' and an originally two handed pirate becomes 'Captain Hook.' Starcatcher features an ensemble cast, storytelling, improvisation, wit, whimsy, subtle and not so subtle humor, timely references, and, of course, fairy dust.

BWW Review: You'll Love Life in OUR TOWN at Bellevue Little Theatre
by Christine Swerczek - Nov 17, 2019

Thornton Wilder's OUR TOWN just went into my books as one of the most heartfelt plays I've seen. Bellevue Little Theatre outdid themselves with this deceptively simple, meta-theatrical three-act production.

BWW Review: RAGTIME Packs a Punch at Omaha Community Playhouse
by Christine Swerczek - Jun 1, 2019

In 1975 E. L. Doctorow wrote an epic novel that encompassed racism, immigration, feminism, the unequal distribution of wealth, and the hope of 'The American Dream.' Terrence McNally took that story to the stage with music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Omaha Community Playhouse reprises that monumental musical from its own memorable run 13 years ago on its stage.

BWW Review: THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY at Omaha Community Playhouse is Worth a Second Look
by Christine Swerczek - Mar 4, 2019

Sometimes a story leaves you disappointed. Or disillusioned. So you take a second look. You read the novella. You watch the film. You return to the Omaha Community Playhouse for another performance of THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. And you see it with fresh eyes and a new perspective.

BWW Review: THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME at Omaha Community Playhouse
by Christine Swerczek - Jan 24, 2019

Having eagerly awaited seeing the Omaha Community Playhouse production of the Tony Award winning play, THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, I was disappointed to find that I was not moved. The story, the setting, the action all combined to create a chilly feeling that I couldn't shake.

BWW Review: A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is a Funny Thing
by Christine Swerczek - Jul 15, 2017

With so much theater happening in Omaha, it's difficult to garner a sold out crowd on a weekend night. But for those who want a mindless jaunt to the Roman Forum, this is your trip. It's quaint. It's charming. (It's filled with Ebkes.) And it's a funny thing.

BWW Review: You're Gonna Wanna See THE PRODUCERS!
by Christine Swerczek - May 31, 2016

This is something you're gonna wanna see! THE PRODUCERS, a Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan musical masterpiece of mayhem, has opened at the Omaha Community Playhouse. In typical Mel Brooks fashion, it sweeps you off into a tornadic whirlwind of slapstick, clever innuendos, and just plain foolishness. But even a piece as good as this would not be as funny as it's meant to be without the right cast and crew to pull it off. This bunch does.

If you've recently watched "Saving Mr. Banks," you may be twice as curious about Mary Poppins and the Banks family. What's true? Who's real? Well, it's hard to tell, because MARY POPPINS is brimming with more than brimstone and treacle. It's filled with magic and wise sayings and heart.
