Made in Brazil, with Italian roots, based in New York. That is the best way to describe the many-sided Raiane Cantisano, actress and singer, who moved to the US three years ago and is taking the city by storm. Back in her hometown she's been seen many times on Rio's stages in renowned productions of plays like A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, And Then There were None and the original musical So Por Hoje. She then trained with some of the most prestigious teachers in America at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute (where names like Angelina Jolie, Al Pacino, Marlon Brando and many others built their craft) and since her graduation she's hardly found time to breathe in between gigs.

InProximity Theatre Company (Jolie Curtsinger, Laurie Schaefer Fenton, Co-Artistic Directors) is proud to announce this year's selections for the second annual PROJECT W Theatre Festival include Darcy Parker Bruce, Mathilde Dratwa, Christina Gorman, Donna Hoke and Kara Emily Krantz. NJ Rep presents a celebration of the works of Edna Ferber including salon readings of 5 brand new one-act plays adapted from Ferber's short stories, a lecture on the story behind Show Boat told by Ferber's great niece and biographer, Julie Gilbert, and a concert reading of Selina Peake written by the Pulitzer prize winning playwright, Horton Foote, based on the Pulitzer prize winning novel, So Big. All presentations will be at West End Arts Center, 132 West End Avenue in Long Branch.

The Drama League has announced the theater directors and ensembles chosen to develop new plays and musicals as part of the 2017 Drama League Artist Residency Program.

Choreographer Jonathan Cerullo returns to the New York Musical Festival (NYMF) with the new musical, Lisa and Leonardo. His mentor, acclaimed choreographer Patricia Birch, first introduced him to the festival in its inaugural season. Cerullo had been assisting Birch for thirteen years, and moved into the role of executive producer with her NYMF production of Orphan Train. Subsequently, he went on to stage two other musicals at the festival and also became an evaluator reading new scripts.

The new musical Lisa and Leonardo will be presented at this year's New York Musical Festival. With music by Donya Lane, lyrics by Ed McNamee and book by Donna Lane, Ed McNamee & Michael Unger. Lisa and Leonardo will be directed by Michelle Tattenbaum with musical direction by Robert Frost and choreography by Jonathan Cerullo. The show will begin July 21 and running through July 28 at the Duke on 42nd Street, a NEW 42ND STREET project (229 W 42nd Street). Being held this weekend, April 24th through 26th, preparations are in full swing for some exciting new works to be displayed in a theme of 'Rediscovery'. Artistic Director Scott Schwartz took time to speak with me today about the festival.

Productions and The Great Griffon will present a rare revival of Animals Out of Paper, by Rajiv Joseph (2010 Pulitzer Prize Finalist - Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo), directed by Merri Milwe, at McAlphin Hall at West Park Presbyterian Church. Starring David Beck, Nairoby Otero, and Maneesh Sasikumar, this limited Off-Broadway engagement opens tonight, February 12. Performances continue through February 28th, 2015 only.
