Having seen the musical HAMILTON when it was in Los Angeles, like many others I learned more important details about the founding fathers while watching it than I felt I had ever learned in school. Lin-Manuel Miranda who created that uber-successful musical in 2015, has said that 1776 THE MUSICAL, written in 1969, during another time of political and social unrest in the United States, has 'one of the best books-if not the best-ever written for musical theatre.' And now I can say I certainly agree with him. California rock and party legends Steel Panther have survived a career of living a decadent lifestyle surrounded by loud music, fast cars and beautiful women. That lifestyle of debauchery and proclivity towards random sexual encounters has finally caught up with the band's bassist. Lexxi Foxx has voluntarily checked himself in to an undisclosed sex rehab. He will have to miss the current US tour that recently kicked off in Chicago. The band's friend of over 30 years and backstage doorman Spyder will be filling in on bass for the upcoming tour dates. California rock and party legends Steel Panther are bringing their celebrated live show into 2019 with the Heavy Metal Mardi Gras tour. The new dates kick off March 1st in Jacksonville, FL and will currently run through March 8th with more dates to be announced in the near future. The new tour heads in to the South and will make stops in Birmingham, AL; New Orleans, LA; and Nashville, TN among others. Fellow party animals Wilson, who have toured with Steel Panther in the past, will return as special guests for these new dates. Somewhere between its opening of SWEET CHARITY in late June and the end of July, Reprise 2.0 postponed its second scheduled production of its inaugural season, VICTOR/VICTORIA. In its place, the company has mounted a revival of Kander & Ebb's musical revue, THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND, and, while it isn't a rarely revived book musical, which has always been Reprise's focus in the past, it does contain a score derived from some of the best songs in the classic Kander & Ebb catalogue (think CHICAGO and CABARET).

In a brief engagement at the Hanover Theatre in Worcester, Mass. (which ended this Sunday), the national tour of Steve Martin and Edie Brickell's southern musical BRIGHT STAR flickers between down-home country charm and maudlin storytelling. Strong performances and a kickin' on-stage bluegrass band, though, manage to knock off the tarnish of this tepid tale of hope and redemption to deliver an uplifting message in the end.
