Meryl Streep to Receive TIFF Tribute Actor Award at Inaugural Tribute Gala

Joana Vicente and Cameron Bailey, Co-Heads of TIFF, today announced that three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep will be honoured with the TIFF Tribute Actor Award, Sponsored by RBC at this year's new TIFF Tribute Gala awards event. Taking place on Monday, September 9 at Fairmont Royal York, during the 44th Toronto International Film Festival, the Gala is an annual fundraiser to support TIFF's year-round programmes and core mission to transform the way people see the world through film, and to celebrate the film industry's outstanding contributors.

Rialto Summer Cinema Opens This Month With JULIE AND JULIA

Rialto Summer Cinema 2019 begins with the comedy Julie & Julia, written and directed by Nora Ephron, starring Meryl Streep. The film contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the life of young New Yorker Julie Powell. Both women wrote memoirs and find their lives intertwined. Though separated by time and space, both women are at loose ends... until they discover that with the right combination of passion, fearlessness and butter, anything is possible.

THE LITTLE MERMAID, GYPSY and More are Coming to a Screen Near You in BWW's July Stage-to-Screen Report

This past month was filled with exciting stage-to-screen news! In casting news, The Little Mermaid cast Halle Bailey as Ariel in the upcoming live-action Little Mermaid film and Ryan Murphy's film adaptation of The Prom on Netflix has cast Meryl Streep and James Corden in lead roles. Amy Sherman-Palladino announced she is writing the script, as well as directing, the Gypsy film remake and Kinky Boots is heading to Broadway HD!

The beautiful, rolling hills of Ireland hold many stories and secrets.Open Fist Theatre Company presents Dancing at Lughnasa by the great Irish playwright Brian Friel. Barbara Schofield directs Friel's Tony Award-winning masterpiece for a July 12 opening at Atwater Village Theatre, where performances will continue through Aug. 18. Pay-what-you-want previews begin July 6.

Uma Thurman to Perform World Premiere of Previn and Stoppard's PENELOPE

The Boston Symphony Orchestra will move forward with presenting the world premiere of Andre Previn and Tom Stoppard's Penelope at Tanglewood's Ozawa Hall on Wednesday, July 24 at 8 p.m. New to the performance lineup is Boston-born actress Uma Thurman, who will take on the newly created part of narrator, joining the previously announced performers-the Emerson String Quartet, pianist Simone Dinnerstein, and vocalist Renee Fleming, to whom the work is dedicated.

Totem Pole Playhouse Offers Half Priced Tickets To SOUVENIR

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA has announced the third production in the Playhouse's new summer subscription series, Souvenir by Stephen Temperley. The Playhouse is offering three half-price preview performances Friday, July 12 at 8pm and Saturday, July 13 at 2pm and 8pm. All seats are general admission and priced at $25.00.
