3-D THEATRICALS is finally back and are thrilled to invite you to “Seize the Day” as they present the high-flying NEWSIES, book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, musical conductor is Julie Lamoureux, vocal director is Crystal Barron, choreography by Chaz Wolcott (recreating the original Broadway choreography by Christopher Gattelli) and directed by T.J. Dawson. NEWSIES will preview on Friday, May 13, 2022 (with a press opening on Saturday, May 14 at 8pm) and runs through Sunday, May 29, 2022 at Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts, 18000 Park Plaza Drive in Cerritos.
“Hear the beat of dancing feet, It’s the song I love the melody of Forty-Second Street.” 42nd Street opened at the Alhambra Theatre and Dining on May 13th. The musical follows the production of a musical called “Pretty Lady.” We observed an extremely talented girl from Allentown, Pennsylvania, Peggy Sawyer (Julie Stewart) trying to make it on Broadway. We also see a washed-up Broadway actress, Dorothy Brock (Jennifer Medure), trying to make a comeback, who is struck down (no pun intended) with a broken ankle and can no longer perform. Thank goodness Peggy Sawyer (Stewart) can step into the role after the producer, Julian Marsh (James Aaron Skiba), sees she can dance circles around Dorothy Brock (Medure) and sings just as well. The classic musical for sure gives the classic vibes of a small-town girl making it big on Broadway.
The Darkhorse Theatre is set to stage tandem productions of That Woman- The Monologue Show and That Woman- The Dance Show. Ticket for all shows are now on sale at tnplaywrights.org. 92Y has announced 21 finalists for the 2022 Future Dance Festival. Created by Harkness Dance Center director Taryn Kaschock Russell, the Future Dance Festival is a choreographic competition aiming to give new creators an opportunity to showcase their work.
