Singing gangsters and nuns are taking the stage -- together - at the Arvada Center.

On July 9, the Arvada Center for Arts and Humanities celebrates 40 years of exceptional art, music and theatre all taking place in its outdoor amphitheatre. The Colorado Symphony, well-known musical theatre actors and members of the Center's Musical Theatre Teen Intensive summer camp will join forces to present a concert celebrating the past while casting a glimpse towards the future. The musical Death Takes a Holiday, currently playing at the Arvada Center, doesn't just breathe a little life into Death-it makes him out to be a hopeless romantic.

The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities will open the regional premiere of Death Takes a Holiday directed by Arvada Center Artistic Producer, Rod A. Lansberry in the Main Stage Theatre on April 26, running through May 15, 2016. Performances are Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday at 1:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday at 2:00 p.m., Previews are April 22 - 24 at 7:30 p.m. nightly.  Moderated Talk Backs are scheduled on Friday, May 6 following the 7:30 p.m. performance and Wednesday, May 11 following the 1:00 p.m. performance. A new musical is making its first appearance for one weekend only at the Aurora Fox, and it's tackling something a bit more contemporary. Bookface…the Musical explores how a family can both disconnect and reconnect through social media.

"Miscast' is an opportunity for some of the local theatre community's top performers to sing songs and act out scenes they would never … ever! … get cast to perform on a legitimate stage. This popular tradition returns for one night only at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 14, as a benefit for the Denver Actors Fund at the Town Hall Arts Center, 2450 Main St., Littleton, CO 80120.

The Spitfire Grill, based on the film of the same name, follows Percy (Megan Van De Hey), who just got out of prison. A page from an old magazine brings her to the town of Gilead, Wisconson, where she finds a job at the Spitfire Grill working for Hannah (Anne Oberbroeckling), an aging widow who also lives in the building. While Hannah has been trying to sell it for years, Percy suggests she raffle it off for whoever writes the best essay and sends a hundred dollars. They team up with Shelby (Kelly Watt), who also works at the grill.

I have to compliment these two on their professionalism and never missing a beat; even when the stormy weather outside starting to become a very noticeable puddle and small coy pond on the stage!

The Colorado Theatre Guild's 9th Annual Henry Awards will take place Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd in Arvada, Colorado. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and a silent auction. The awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by an after-party.
