Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma today announced that it will stage the first ever production of the new musical TRIANGLE, written by three of musical theatre's brightest young composers. The show will be directed by Lyric's Artistic Director Michael Baron and feature original music by Curtis Moore (music and book), Thomas Mizer (lyrics and book) and Joshua Scher (book) and a cast of Broadway stars and local favorites. The production will run from March 26 through April 5 at the Plaza Theatre.

Today in 2005, Little Women opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 137 performances. Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, it focuses on the four March sisters - brassy, tomboy-like, aspiring writer Jo, romantic Meg, pretentious Amy, and kind-hearted Beth - and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio. The Broadway cast included Sutton Foster, Maureen McGovern, Janet Carroll, Jenny Powers, Megan McGinnis, and Amy McAlexander.

On Friday, January 24, Broadway producersKen Davenport (Kinky Boots, Macbeth, Godspell) and Michael Jackowitz (How To Succeed in Business..., Seance on a Wet Afternoon) will present private industry presentations of the acclaimed new chamber musical DADDY LONG LEGS in midtown Manhattan.

Continuing through January 24, The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel wil present award-winning singer, actor and dancer Sutton Foster. Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces a preliminary lineup of star performers, and a luminous array of theater notables including Andre Bishop, Terrence McNally and James Naughton, who will help celebrate three extraordinary people at the annual TRU Love Benefit, Honoring Friendship, Remembering Friends. The trio of TRU friends who will be remembered and honored are producer Randall Wreghitt (Little Women, Beauty Queen of Leenane, Grey Gardens, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Golda's Balcony, As Bees in Honey Drown, The Food Chain) who died unexpectedly at the age of 55 in May 2011, and will be posthumously remembered with the 2013 TRU Spirit of Theater Award; Michael Feingold, former critic with the Village Voice, who will receive the TRU Humanitarian Award for educating generations of theatergoers about the historical, social and cultural context of the shows he reviews; and TRU member and program director Patricia R. Klausner, who will be recognized and applauded with the TRU Entrepreneur Award for her ongoing dedication in both the not-for-profit and commercial producing arenas.

Sutton Foster may be a Tony-Award winning Broadway Musical Theatre darling, but if her opening-night show this past Wednesday at Café Carlyle (which launched her current three-week run until September 28) is the best she can do, she's far from also being considered a nightclub/cabaret diva.

Continuing through September 28, two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster returns to the Cafe Carlyle (The Carlyle Hotel - 35 East 76th Street at Madison Avenue) for a series of concert performances. 22@54, on May 22nd, will present original songs by emerging writers from NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program's class cycle 22, at a late night concert to benefit Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP).

Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) would like to congratulate winners of the awards in the Large Theater category by the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE). It was an exciting evening for everyone who attended, and MRT is proud to announce the following winners in the Large Theater category. Rebecca Harris won for Best Supporting Actress for Mrs. Whitney, while Megan McGinnis won for Best Actress in a Musical for Daddy Long Legs. Laura Berquist won Best Musical Director for Daddy Long Legs, and John Caird won for Best Director of a Musical for Daddy Long Legs. Lastly, Daddy Long Legs took home the award for Best Musical.
