On January 30-31 and February 1, the Houston Symphony POPS will be joined by two-time Tony award--winning actress, singer and dancer Sutton Foster in Sutton Foster: Broadway's Leading Lady.
Foster together with recently announced Principal POPS Conductor Designate Steven Reineke will perform a program full of classic Broadway favorites. Known for portraying the leading lady in the revival of Anything Goes and for originating roles in well-known musicals such as Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek the Musical and Young Frankenstein, Foster brings her unparalleled talent and charm to Jones Hall performing her Broadway hits and more.
Actor, singer and dancer Joshua Henry and vocalist Megan McGinnis will join Foster in this program. Broadway audiences may remember Henry from his performance as Jake in the Tony award-winning revival of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess and Haywood Patterson in the musical The Scottsboro Boys, which earned him a Tony Award nomination for "Best Performance by a leading actor in a musical." McGinnis can be heard on the original cast recordings of Little Women and Parade, and most recently, on Sutton Foster's album Wish singing the duet "Flight." McGinnis was last seen on Broadway starring as Eponine in the revival of Les Miserables.
As a solo artist, Sutton has performed all over the country as well as internationally with her musical director Michael Rafter featuring songs from her debut solo CD "Wish" as well as her follow up CD, "An Evening With Sutton Foster: Live at the Cafe Carlyle." She has graced the stages of Carnegie Hall, Feinstein's, Lincoln Center's American Songbook series, Joe's Pub and many others. In 2011 she received an Honorary Doctorate degree from Ball State University where she also is on faculty as a teacher and advisor to the Department of Theatre and Dance
