Ailey's 60th Anniversary Holiday Season Continues To Move Audiences At New York City Center

On Tuesday, December 4th, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continued its historic 60th Anniversary season with the world premiere of Ronald K. Brown's The Call, the renowned choreographer's seventh work for the Company which he describes as “a love letter to Ailey.” The New York Times says, “The Call… is something of a conversation between the choreographers, a beauty of a dance that ripples along while highlighting Ailey's formality, his ebullience and how he came to find his choreographic voice.” There are four more chances to see The Call this season: Dec. 8 mat, 9 eve, 20, and 29 mat.

Alvin Ailey Brings Three Midwest Premieres To Auditorium Theatre In March

The Auditorium Theatre announces programming for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's return to Chicago March 6-10, commemorating the company's 60th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of its first performances at the Auditorium, its Chicago home. During these special engagements, Ailey gives Midwest premieres to its first ever two-act ballet, Rennie Harris' Lazarus; Wayne McGregor's Kairos; and Jessica Lang's EN. The company also performs the Timeless Ailey program, a curated selection of classic pieces by company founder and visionary Alvin Ailey.

Ailey's 60th Anniversary Opening Night Gala Benefit Launches Five-Week Holiday Engagement At New York City Center

Last night, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's 60th Anniversary holiday season at New York City Center kicked off with a star-studded Opening Night Gala Benefit performance and party led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, with iconic film stars Angela Bassett and Cicely Tyson as honorary chairs. Prudential Financial received the Ailey Legacy Honor for their generous support and commitment to Ailey, especially its education and community programs. The award was presented by Battle and Christopher Taylor, an alumnus of the inaugural AileyCamp Newark (2011) and a current scholarship student at The Ailey School, and accepted by Lata Reddy, Senior Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion and Impact at Prudential Financial.

Max Richter Will Make Hong Kong Debut with the HK Phil

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) is honoured to welcome Max Richter, the pre-eminent Neo-Classical/Ambient composer of our era, to perform on the Hong Kong stage for the first time, with conductor Robert Ziegler, violinist Mari Samuelsen, soprano Grace Davison and the orchestra. They will perform two of his best-known compositions - Recomposed and Memoryhouse.

Auditorium Theatre Highlights Innovative Contemporary Dance Today

On Today, November 16, three groundbreaking contemporary dance companies perform on the Auditorium Theatre's landmark stage in the "Made in Chicago" 312 Dance Series. The evening features Ate9 Dance Company, performing the work calling glenn with live music from Chicago-based percussionist Glenn Kotche (Wilco); Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, performing Kevin Iega Jeff's Church of Nations, Kevin Iega Jeff and Gary Abbott's Heaven, and Nicole Clarke-Springer's Until Lambs Become Lions; and Visceral Dance Chicago, performing company founder Nick Pupillo's Soft Spoken.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Announces 60th Anniversary Season

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, New York City Center's Principal Dance Company, returns to the theater's stage from November 28 - December 30, 2018 for a milestone season. During the Company's Ailey Ascending 60th Anniversary celebration, Artistic Director Robert Battle leads Ailey's 32 extraordinary dancers during this five-week holiday engagement that will elevate a legacy of excellence in artistry with premieres by some of today's most revered and prolific choreographers, including world premieres by Rennie Harris and Ronald K. Brown; a company premiere by Wayne McGregor; a new production of by Robert Battle; the return of a recent premiere by Jessica Lang, and special performances of rarely seen works by Alvin Ailey himself.

BAM and Wordless Music present Terrence Malick's Voyage of Time with a live orchestral and choral performance of its powerful score. A "vast and visually overwhelming nature documentary" (The New Yorker) that was 30 years in the making, Voyage of Time is both a stunning visual fantasia and science documentary, capturing and envisioning the life cycle of the universe. It is an expansion of the "birth of the universe" segment from Malick's acclaimed 2011 film The Tree of Life.

MOVEIUS Contemporary Ballet To Premiere RITE OF SPRING, CRASH OF FALL At Kennedy Center

MOVEIUS Contemporary Ballet (MOVEIUS), pushing the boundaries of ballet to tackle policy issues affecting society, will premiere Rite of Spring, Crash of Fall for its commission at The Kennedy Center. The 35-minute ballet uses Stravinsky's Rite of Spring score and storyline as the backdrop for revisiting the 2008 financial crisis on its 10-year anniversary. The company will also present an excerpt from its acclaimed Glacier: A Climate Change Ballet—which they recently presented at the Global Climate Summit in San Francisco. Performances will take place October 13-14 at the Millenium Stage at 6:00 p.m.

Producer And Established Composer Poltrock Shares New Single, 'Titanus'

Belgian producer and established composer Poltrock has premiered 'Titanus', the first single off his upcoming album 'Machines' set for release on November 16 via Poltrock Music as part of the ongoing album trilogy 'Mutes, Moods and Machines'; culminating a five-year-long process of three full length albums released with a pianesque 88-day interval, all highlighting a different approach to the 88 piano keys. The first in the trilogy, 'Mutes' is a collection of short and intimate piano improvisations released on International Piano Day, March 29th 2018, while the second part of the trilogy, 'Moods', released soon after on June 22nd on is a series of atmospheric and cinematographic soundscapes blending natural and prepared pianos with menacing drones and dense sound textures. Now, Poltrock prepares the third and final installment of the trilogy titled 'Machines'; an instrumental electronic album combining heavily prepared and repetitive piano patterns with hypnotic and organic electronica aspects, encompassing on an arduous yet relentless journey. Currently, David Poltrock is touring with Hooverphonic, De Mens and Bent Van Looy and bringing an experimental music with the deep-drone ensemble Razen.

Inspired equally by The Beatles and Bach, punk rock and ambient electronica, electro-acoustic composer-pianist Max Richter blends baroque beauty with minimalist methodology and classical orchestration with modern technology. His seductively beautiful works, ubiquitous in dance, film, and television, are broadening the audience for contemporary compositions. Richter makes his Philadelphia debut with this performance. BWW Review: FOUR SEASONS/REMEMBRANCE, Peacock Theatre

New English Ballet Theatre, founded by artistic director Karen Pilkington-Miksa, has been on a mission to nurture and showcase young dancers and emerging choreographers since it launched seven years ago. In the intervening time, it has become synonymous with a visionary and thoroughly modern approach to making original touring pieces to present to the widest possible audience. This year, it returns to the Peacock Theatre with a double bill of sensitively pitched but contrasting pieces in Four Seasons and Remembrance.

Festival Ballet Theatre Announces An Exciting New Season

Festival Ballet Theatre (FBT), Orange County's resident professional ballet company, is pleased to announce its 2018-2019 season. This year marks the company's 30th anniversary and is proud to present a repertory of innovative contemporary works and acclaimed classical ballets.  The season starts with Ovation, a conceptual tour de force in three pieces by contemporary choreographers on October 13 and 14, followed by The Nutcracker from December 8 to 24, Sleeping Beauty on March 23 and 24, concluding with Gala of the Stars in August 2019 (venue to be announced).

NPR Premieres Theodore's New Single 'Disorientation'

Today, Multi-instrumentalist and composer Theodore premiered his third single 'Disorientation' and announced the release date for his cascading LP Inner Dynamics on NPR's All Songs Considered. Where his previous album It Is But It's Not attempted to explore the interaction of opposing elements in the universe, Inner Dynamics finds Theodore looking inward to examine the dualities of his own identity in search of new creative potential. The album 'Disorientation” begins with mystifying whispers, and a pulsating bass until Theodore's heavy-hearted voice brings in dream-induced dramatism. Inner Dynamics features production by Vagelis Moschos and is set to be released on November 2. 

United Music Of Brussels Announces Programme

On 8 September, La Monnaie/De Munt, the Belgian National Orchestra and BOZAR will join forces for the third iteration of United Music of Brussels. This year's theme is wonderment as a trigger for curiosity and creativity: the wonderment people will experience as they discover both new locations and enjoy unique musical experiences that challenge the boundaries of classical music. From 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., the public and passers-by can walk from Place de la Monnaie to the Centre for Fine Arts, with multiple different and unexpected stops along the way, in fifteen iconic locations in the city centre. These mini-concerts will combine classical music and dynamic DJ sets, or jazz beats and dance. They will turn a great opera into a light-hearted musical, and a historic concert hall into a film set. We like to present to you the complete festive program where performers and visitors can share their sense of wonderment, during this congenial musical end to the summer, which also kicks off another exciting musical season!
