Interview: Ann Morrison of MERRILY FROM CENTER STAGE at The Woman's Club Of Minneapolis

A solo musical based on memories of Ann’s award winning Broadway debut as Mary Flynn in the 1981 Stephen Sondheim musical, Merrily We Roll Along Thursday, April 25, 7:30 pm, in the Theater. Perhaps you saw Merrily We Roll Along at Theater Latté Da last season or are one of the lucky few able to get tickets to the current, sold-out, and extended production on Broadway. Whether or not you’ve seen the musical, you don’t want to miss Ann Morrison in her one-person show, Merrily From Center Stage.

Chris Cooper And Cast Present 'Sublime' Version of [title of show] at MTSU

Cooper’s clear and focused direction of [title of show] ensures that the action that transpires over the course of 90-plus minutes holds your attention, reminds you of people you know and delivers a pretty spot-on depiction of what real life is all about. With the able assistance of musical director Angela Tipps (the only non-student involved in the production, except for the professors who serve as mentors of the student-led creative team and production crew) and choreographer Paige Lovell (who provides the quartet of actors some fancy footwork that enlivens the proceedings), Cooper and his ideally cast quartet of actors, in this critic’s estimation, deliver the goods and then some.

Review: LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, Wyndham's Theatre

Eugene O'Neill's classic play of family strife has had regular revivals in London (most recently in 2018 and 2012). Set in 1912 and published posthumously in 1956, it remains one of the great American plays. Brian Cox returns to the London stage as James Tyrone, actor, family colossus, and flawed man, in a mesmerising performance.

Interview: Alex Lyras, Writer & Director of Aristotle/Alexander at the Getty Villa Theater Lab

For over a decade, The Getty has hosted its Villa Theater Lab series, an exciting forum for reinterpreting classical theater. These workshops feature new translations of Greek and Roman plays and contemporary works inspired by ancient literature. Their latest offering, Aristotle/Alexander, explores the real-life relationship between Aristotle and a teenaged Alexander the Great in 342 BC. As a former teacher of Greek Mythology and history, I could not resist asking Alex Lyras, the play’s writer and director, about his background studying the two great men, the play’s creation, and what audiences can expect to discover about these two ancient heroes.
