The Stella Adler Studio of Acting has announced Embracing Compassion Week (March 20 - 24), which will include several events and performances at the Studio and coincides with the Studio's participation in the Embracing Compassion - Lives of the Dalai Lama exhibition, an international project honoring sacred Tibetan art and the 14 incarnations of the Dalai Lama.

Considered the perfect musical comedy, Guys and Dolls, takes the stage at The Wick Theatre from March 9th through April 9th. Based on the short stories of Damon Runyon,  with music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, Guys and Dolls won the Tony Award for Best Musical, ran for 1,200 performances on Broadway, and became an Oscar nominated film starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra. Cagney, the hit musical about Hollywood's tough guy in tap shoes,will conclude its celebrated run atThe Westside Theatre on Sunday, May 28, 2017. Cagney began performances at The Westside Theatre March 16, 2016, prior to an official opening on April 3, 2016. When Cagney takes its final curtain call at The Westside Theatre, the production will have played a total of 502 performances (including 21 previews).  

Late last month, Viola Davis took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Rose Maxson in FENCES. Based on the August Wilson play of the same name, FENCES is the story of an African-American family living in the Hill District of Pittsburgh in 1950s.

In the one-woman show TURNING PAGE, Angelica Page takes on perhaps the role of her career - that of her real-life mother, Geraldine Page, who was theater, Hollywood and Actors Studio royalty. A daunting role, to be sure. Angelica says at the top of the piece that her mother asked her to see that her story was told. Eventually, Angelica decided to "channel" her mother in this way to keep the iconic actress' legacy alive.

On January 19, Tom Oppenheim, Artistic Director of The Stella Adler Studio of Acting, along with students of the Studio and actress Kate Mulgrew, participated in the first event of The Ghostlight Project, an initiative launched by members of the theater community to create a "light" in dark times.

Cagney, the new hit musical about Hollywood's tough guy in tap shoes, celebrates its 300th performance, today, December 21 at the Westside Theatre, upstairs. Cagney had its official opening on April 3, 2016 following 21 preview performances.
