The Theatre World Awards to Be Held at Circle in the Square; Victor Garber to Receive John Willis Award

An afternoon Island Celebration! The Theatre World Awards Board of Directors, Dale Badway, President, have announced, today, the 74th Annual Theatre World Awards Ceremony will take place at Circle in the Square. Theatre World Award Alum Victor Garber (Hello, Dolly!) will receive the 6th Annual John Willis Award for Lifetime Achievement In The Theatre, celebrating his 46th year on the Broadway stage.

MY FAIR LADY, HAMILTON, and More Featured in New Season of THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD IN 100 PERFORMANCES

A new season of The History of the World in 100 Performances with Adam Gopnik begins on Monday, April 30, with a look at the 1956 original Broadway premiere of My Fair Lady. The season continues with explorations of the scandalous 1913 premiere of The Rite of Spring and the evolution of Hamilton. With discussion led by New Yorker essayist and best-selling author Adam Gopnik, these free events include live performance alongside audio and video clips as each panel explores these landmark moments in the performing arts. 

National Philharmonic Dedicating its 2018-19 Season To Leonard Bernstein

The centennial of renowned American composer Leonard Bernstein is celebrated throughout the National Philharmonic's 2018-2019 concert series at The Music Center at Strathmore. Performing compositions that influenced Bernstein, as well as some of his very own famous works, the National Philharmonic will be the only symphony orchestra dedicating most of its 2018-2019 season to the works surrounding the legendary composer. 

BWW review: Much LAUGHTER ON THE 23rd FLOOR at Garry Marshall

In 1993 Neil Simon penned his experiences as a young writer for Your Show of Shows on early 50s television in a play entitled Laughter on the 23rd Floor. At that time he was a novice learning from the likes of series star Sid Caesar and fellow-writers Mel Brooks, Larry Gelbart, Carl Reiner, and Selma Diamond among others. The seven member team plus Caesar collaborated on sketch comedy that ran live weekly on NBC. Daily work was hellish with the crazies bringing their personal issues and divergent styles of expression every hour of every day to the writers' room. The sketch material was not only affected by their various personalities clouded by bold ethnic traits but also by the world around them that included the infamous attacks of McCarthyism. In the arts actors, writers, directors and other artists were endangered of being branded a communist and fired from their work. NBC found Your Show of Shows to be too sophisticated and thereby made cuts threatening the show's existence. It was cut back to an hour. In the play Sid Caesar is Max Prince (Pat Towne), an alcoholic and drug addicted tyrant who will stop at nothing to prove his point. Jones Street Productions presents the New York premiere of Moolah, a new comedy by Arje Shaw (The Gathering, Magic Hands Freddie). Stella Adler Studio Presents ONE DROP OF LOVE

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater will present One Drop of Love, a multimedia solo performance by Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni. Written, produced and performed by Fanshen, One Drop of Love explores the intersections of race, class and gender in search of truth, justice and love, using the ever-changing racial categories on the U.S. Census as the historical backdrop. Fanshen parallels this history with her own, and her family's, search for roots, identity and justice, and asks the audience to examine their own identities. The ultimate goal of the performance is to encourage the discussion of race and racism openly and critically, and to encourage a commitment to making the world more liberated for all.
