Christian Thielemann Leads Staatskapelle Dresden in Two Concerts at Carnegie Hall, 4/17 & 19

Carnegie Hall presents conductor Christian Thielemann leading the venerable Staatskapelle Dresden in two concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage this April. Tonight, April 17 at 8:00 p.m., Maestro Thielemann conducts an all-Brahms program, featuring the composer's Symphony No. 4, Academic Festival Overture, and the Violin Concerto with acclaimed violinist Lisa Batiashvili. Earlier this year, the Deutsche Grammophon label released a new recording featuring Ms. Batiashvili's performance of the Brahms Violin Concerto with MR. Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden.

Alan Gilbert and the NY Philharmonic To Release New Album of Works by Magnus Lindberg

A new album of recordings of world premieres by Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg, written for and performed by Music Director Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic, will be released on May 28 by Dacapo Records — the same label also releasing the Philharmonic's critically-acclaimed cycle of the complete symphonies and concertos of Carl Nielsen. The works, all premiered during Mr. Lindberg's tenure as The Marie-Josée Kravis Composer-in-Residence with the New York Philharmonic from 2009–2012, represent the composer's longstanding relationship with the Orchestra.

Renee Fleming to Round Out Carnegie Hall Perspectives Series with THE STRAND SETTINGS and More, 4/26 & 5/4

Renowned soprano Renee Fleming completes her Carnegie Hall Perspectives series with two concerts in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage, April 26 and May 4. Appearing on Friday, April 26 at 8:00 p.m. with the New York Philharmonic and Music Director Alan Gilbert, Ms. Fleming performs the world premiere of a song cycle The Strand Settings by Swedish composer Anders Hillborg, commissioned by Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic.

Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's David Coucheron Performs Sibelius Violin Concerto, Now thru 6/2

Concertmaster David Coucheron will take center stage to perform Sibelius's Violin Concerto with Music Director Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra tonight, May 31, and June 1-2, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Spano will also lead the Orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and the Atlanta Symphony premiere of Magnus Lindberg's Arena. The performances will take place in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Virtuoso pianist Yefim Bronfman joined the program, performing the West Coast premiere of Piano Concerto No. 2, by New York Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg. Also on the program were Dvorak's Carnival Overture and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4. Though Gilbert had previously appeared at Walt Disney Concert Hall (WDCH), most recently during the 2006/07 season, the performance was the New York Philharmonic's WDCH debut.
