Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's David Coucheron to Perform Sibelius Violin Concerto, 5/31-6/2

Concertmaster David Coucheron will take center stage to perform Sibelius's Violin Concerto with Music Director Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra May 31, June 1-2, 2012, at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Spano will also lead the Orchestra in Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and the Atlanta Symphony premiere of Magnus Lindberg's Arena. The performances will take place in Atlanta Symphony Hall at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic Release New Album of Magnus Lindberg and Prokofiev

The fifth release from the Alan Gilbert and the New York Philharmonic 2011-12 Season digital recording series is now available for download from iTunes and other major online music providers. This latest recording - led by Music Director Alan Gilbert - features Feria, a 17-minute orchestral essay completed in 1997 by The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg, alongside Prokofiev's Symphony No. 5.

Lyric Opera of Chicago Announces 2015-16 World Premiere of BEL CANTO

Anthony Freud, general director of Lyric Opera of Chicago, today announced details of its new world premiere. Bel Canto, by the gifted young Peruvian composer Jimmy Lopez, with a libretto by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, is based on the best-selling novel by Ann Patchett. To premiere in Lyric's 2015-16 season, the new opera, commissioned as part of Lyric's Renee Fleming Initiative, will be conducted by Lyric music director Sir Andrew Davis and directed by Stephen Wadsworth.

New York Philharmonic to Stage CAROUSEL in 2013; PBS to Televise Concert

The New York Phiharmonic has just announced the 2012-13 season, which is set to include a staged production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Broadway hit Carousel, February 27-March 2, 2013, directed by James Brennan and conducted by Rob Fisher - the same team behind the Philharmonic's acclaimed 2007 production of My Fair Lady. Mr. Brennan, who is also an actor and choreographer, has directed performances on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional theater. Mr. Fisher is the founding director of New York City Center's Encores! series, and has been a part of numerous productions and projects.

Alec Baldwin Hosts NY Philharmonic Weekly Radio Broadcasts in February

In February 2012 The New York Philharmonic This Week - the weekly radio series of concerts by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - begins with an encore performance of Mendelssohn's Elijah from November 2010 led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, The Yoko Nagae Ceschina Chair, with soprano Carolyn Sampson, mezzo-soprano Alice Coote, tenor Allan Clayton, bass-baritone Gerald Finley, and the New York Choral Artists, Joseph Flummerfelt, director. The second program - from the Orchestra's EUROPE / WINTER 2010 tour - is also led by Mr. Gilbert and includes EXPO by The Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence Magnus Lindberg; Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 2, with Yefim Bronfman as soloist; and Sibelius's Symphony No. 2 and Valse triste as performed in Cologne, Germany.
