Alan Gilbert Conducts World and New York Premieres by Kernis & Rouse, Dec. 28-30

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Aaron Jay Kernis's a Voice, a Messenger, a World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Co- Commission with the Big Band Association, featuring Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Philip Smith, and the New York Premiere of Christopher Rouse's Oboe Concerto, with Principal Oboe Liang Wang, Tuesday, December 28, 2010, Wednesday, December 29, and Thursday, December 30, at 7:30 p.m. Also on the program: Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins, RV 580, performed by Philharmonic violinists Sheryl Staples, Michelle Kim, Marc Ginsberg, and Lisa Kim; Hindemith's Horn Concerto, played by Principal Horn Philip Myers; and Ravel's Boléro.

Alan Gilbert to Conduct Second Season of CONTACT!, 11/19

New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert will launch the second season of CONTACT!, the Orchestra's new-music series, leading Philharmonic musicians in concerts on Friday, November 19, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. at Peter Norton Symphony Space, and Saturday, November 20, at 7:00 p.m., at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The centerpiece of the program will be the World Premiere of Souvenir (in memoriam Gérard Grisey), a New York Philharmonic Commission by Magnus Lindberg, The Marie Josée Kravis Composer-in-Residence, written as a tribute to his late teacher, followed by Grisey's own Quatre chants pour franchir le seuil, performed by soprano Barbara Hannigan, who made her critically acclaimed New York Philharmonic debut last season as Gepopo in Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre. The CONTACT! concerts, which are curated by Mr. Lindberg, began in the 2009-10 season as a showcase for emerging and established contemporary composers.

The New York Philharmonic will present its third international concert tour under the direction of Music Director Alan Gilbert: EUROPE / AUTUMN 2010, October 21-November 4, 2010. The wide-ranging European tour will feature eleven concerts in eight countries, with debuts in the Republic of Georgia (in Tbilisi and Batumi) and Republic of Lithuania (in Vilnius), in addition to concerts in Belgrade, Republic of Serbia; Ljubljana, Republic of Slovenia; Warsaw, Poland; Hamburg, Germany; Paris, France; and Luxembourg. KRAFT To Be Broadcast On THE NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC THIS WEEK

In the third week of November, The New York Philharmonic This Week - the two-hour, national, weekly radio program of concerts by the New York Philharmonic, hosted by Alec Baldwin - will broadcast the New York Premiere of Kraft, the groundbreaking, theatrical work by Magnus Lindberg, the Philharmonic's Marie-Josee Kravis Composer-in-Residence.

Philadelphia Orchestra Announces 2010-2011 Season

The Philadelphia Orchestra celebrates its 30-year musical partnership with Chief Conductor Charles Dutoit in the 2010-11 season. Highlights of Mr. Dutoit's nine subscription weeks with the Orchestra include the 2010-11 Opening Night with violinist Joshua Bell; the U.S. premiere of James MacMillan's Violin Concerto, co-commissioned by the Orchestra, with Vadim Repin; the world premiere of Jonathan Leshnoff's Flute Concerto with Principal Flute Jeffrey Khaner; and Berlioz's The Damnation of Faust with mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and tenor Paul Groves. Mr. Dutoit also leads the Orchestra in three performances at New York's Carnegie Hall and a performance at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

Gilbert To Conduct First Subscription Concerts of the 169th Season

Following the Opening Night Gala concert on September 22, Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in the first subscription concerts of the 2010-11 season, Thursday, September 23, 2010, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, September 24, at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, September 25, at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, September 28, at 7:30 p.m. On the program will be R. Strauss's tone poem Don Juan; Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with Itzhak Perlman as soloist; Henri Dutilleux's Métaboles; and Hindemith's Symphonic Metamorphoses on Themes by Carl Maria von Weber.
