The National Theatre has announced 15 productions of new plays and fresh adaptations by leading writers.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today announced the nominations for the 2019 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Television Craft Awards. These awards reward the very best in television craft and television programmes broadcast in the UK in 2018. The Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards ceremony will be held at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 12 May with the British Academy Television Craft Awards taking place two weeks earlier on Sunday 28 April at The Brewery, London.

What a bizarre year 2018 has been. In the months that saw too much Trump, devastating Californian wildfires, an escalation in the refugee crisis, not to mention the dreaded 'B' word, it makes me more grateful than ever for the pure escapism that live theatre so often provides.

Joe Cole has joined the cast of Pulse Films' upcoming drama 'Gangs of London,' according to Variety. Sope Dirisu ('The Huntsman: Winter's War') has also been cast in the series, which air on Sky in the U.K. and CineMax in the U.S.

The Royal Shakespeare Company brings their latest season to the Barbican this Winter, made up of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and The Merry Wives of Winter. A number of the cast appear in one or two of these shows; Stevie Basaula features in all three, taking on more than ten roles.

HBO partners with BBC, Bad Wolf, and New Line Cinema in a co-prodution of 'His Dark Materials.' HBO co-production of 8-episode drama series currently set for 2 seasons. HBO secures worldwide rights to the series (excluding the UK).

John Goodman and Michaela Coel to star in BAFTA-winner Hugo Blick's thriller Black Earth Rising for BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, while Netflix holds global rights, according to Deadline.

According to Deadline, John Goodman and MICHAELA Coel are set to join the new series BLACK EARTH RISING, from Netflix and BBC. They join the cast already consisting of Noma Dumezweni, Harriet Walter, Tamara Tunie, Lucian Msamati and Abena Ayivor. Read more about it from Deadline here!

New casting announced for the new National Theatre season. Full cast has been announced for Brian Friel's Translations including Colin Morgan and Ciaran Hinds, part of the Travelex season with thousands of tickets available at £15. Eric Kofi Abrefa and Thalissa Teixeira join Vanessa Kirby in the cast of Julie, part of the Travelex season with thousands of tickets available at £15. Sam Mendes directs The Lehman Trilogy, a co-production with Neal Street Productions, cast includes Adam Godley, Ben Miles and Simon Russell Beale. Full casting is announced for the award winning An Octoroon by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, transferring to the National Theatre in a co-production with the Orange Tree Theatre. The NT will tour to 30 venues in 27 towns and cities across the UK and Ireland, for a total of 83 playing weeks over the next year. Rufus Norris' Macbeth to tour to 18 venues across the UK and Ireland from autumn 2018. War Horse returns to the National Theatre marking the centenary of Armistice Day.

Greeted by rapturous reviews in 2016, Peter Shaffer's acclaimed production of Amadeus makes a triumphant return to the National Theatre this week. The enthralling story of a fictional confessional from an Italian musician called Antonio Salieri, as he recalls his obsessional jealousy and subsequent efforts to destroy Amadeus Mozart told through extended flashbacks, has been a success since its debut in 1979. Under Michael Longhurst's careful direction, this version is an extraordinary piece of theatre.

The Fugard Bioscope has an exciting January line up with The National Theatre Encore Season, a chance to re-experience some of the most popular recorded live theatre titles of the past year. The programme features the best of British theatre screenings as well as some new titles from the comfort of a Fugard Theatre seat.

Talks and events at the National Theatre start this year with The Jungle - exploring the issues on 6 January. The talk will explore the issues raised in the play as well as the refugee situation more widely with panel members from Good Chance Theatre directors Joe Robertson and Joe Murphy, Nico Stevens (COO, Help Refugees) and Lord Dubs (who sponsored an amendment to the Immigration Act which allows unaccompanied refugee children to settle in the UK).
