Bay Street Theater & Sag Harbor Center for the Arts has announced the musical event of the summer: Ragtime The Musical.

Songwriting team Will Reynolds and Eric Price, winners of the Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Writing, have released of a music video for their song “Getting Closer” from their forthcoming musical Radioactive, performed by Hannah Corneau (Wicked).

Grammy Award-winning bass Zachary James, currently preparing for his return to the Metropolitan Opera in the acclaimed production of Akhnaten, will join soprano Katherine Riddle (Glimmerglass, Signature Theater, Kennedy Center, Jazz at Lincoln Center) and pianist Laura Bergquist (Arena Theatre, Broadway's Allegiance) for a one-night only concert featuring the music of Kurt Weill.

The Richard Tucker Music Foundation today announces the 2022 recipients of its prestigious Richard Tucker Award, Richard Tucker Career Grant, and Sara Tucker Study Grant.

CLUB44 RECORDS has signed the married musical team of Julie Benko and Jason Yeager for their debut duet album Hand in Hand. Benko is a singer and actress who is currently the “Fanny Brice” standby for Broadway’s Funny Girl; she performed the role last weekend.

As the first main stage production in Australia in over forty years, Melbourne Opera and IOpera will present a stunning reinterpretation of Kurt Weill, Bertolt Brecht and Elisabeth Hauptmann's The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny at The Athenaeum from 1 May.

A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder with Music and Lyrics by Steven Lutvak and Book and Lyrics by Robert L. Freedman will find its way to the Lyric Stage Company of Boston after originally scheduled to open on May 15, 2020.

The concert features mezzo-soprano Lucia Bradford, soprano Kearstin Piper Brown, and baritone Jorell Williams, together with pianists Nathaniel LaNasa and Steven Blier, in works by Black composers that include H. Leslie Adams, Margaret Bonds, Harry Burleigh, Adolphus C. Hailstork, Robert Owens, Hale Smith, and William Grant Still..

The Kleban Foundation is celebrating the 32nd anniversary of the annual Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre with the announcement of the 2022 prizewinners. The Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has been awarded to César Alvarez (they/them).

The series begins with a deep dive into the Life and Legacy of Jonathan Larson. The premiere week continues on January 28th with the first interview of Season 3, featuring 2021 International Lotte Lenya Competition Winner, Andrew Polec. The season begins on January 22nd and will be accompanied by a LIVE event with the co-hosts on their Facebook page at 3 pm EST/8 pm GMT.

Mr. Kim was excited to make his North American debut at San Diego Opera and was impressed with the Company's safety protocols enacted to ensure the safety of the artists, staff, and audience, but needs to withdraw for personal reasons. The Company hopes to welcome him in the future. Mr. Brancy recently performed the role of Guglielmo in San Francisco Opera's production of Cosí fan tutte.

The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music today announced an extension of the application deadline for the 2022 Lenya Competition preliminary auditions. The new deadline, Wednesday, 2 February, was announced to ensure that as many contestants as possible can safely prepare for and participate in this year's contest.

After a highly successful presentation at the New Musicals Lab, Collard & Rosenblatt's Like the Wind will receive a staged reading on December 19th and 20th. Directed by Daniella Caggiano, with music direction by Rai Arsa Artha and stage management by Isabel Schwartzberg, the two-night only staged reading will debut at The Brick in Brooklyn, NY.

The Fred Ebb Foundation will present the seventeenth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to the team of Isabella Dawis & Tidtaya Sinutoke. The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, will be presented on Monday January 3rd, 2022, at a by-invitation-only ceremony at Birdland Jazz Club

Theatro Sao Pedro premieres the satirical ballet chante The Seven Deadly Sins, the last collaboration between Kurt Weil and Bertolt Brecht. The production will be musically directed by Ira Levin, who will command the Theatro Sao Pedro Orchestra. The Seven Deadly Sins opens on November 5th. In all, there will be 8 recitals until the 14th.

Andrew Polec talks about winning The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music's 23rd Annual Lotte Lenya Competition and what he loves about performing HAIR at The Old Globe through October 3rd.

Andrew Polec, 32, actor/singer/musician/composer from Doylestown, PA, is honored to have been named the first prize winner in The Kurt Weill Foundation for Music 's 23rd Annual Lotte Lenya Competition, which took place in New York City on August 28, 2021. He received the $20,000 First Prize plus a $2,000 Finalist Prize, for a total of $22,000. Each of his four selections were a fully realized one-act drama. 

In honor of Luker, a six-time judge for the competition, the Lotte Lenya Competition has created the Rebecca Luker Award, given for an outstanding performance of a selection from a Golden Age musical. The first Luker award was given to Taylor-Alexis DuPont for her performance of “Supper Time,” from As Thousands Cheer.
