In some ways, history is all we have in terms of building a brighter future. At times, we either forget that history, or we never learn about such events that would lead us to make more informed decisions. Remembering historical events clearly isn't the most sought after activity to spend your time. Thus enters the world of theater, where people come to delve into stories and as an added bonus walk out after the show a little more educated than they were walking in. Such was the case for myself in taking in DCPA's production of Vietgone.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) presents the Theater Company's production of the 'raucous, immensely moving comedy' (The New York Times) Vietgone by Qui Nguyen.
Courtney Bassett, seen on Broadway in Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, has released a music video with her band Starbird & the Phoenix for their song 'Sunbeam.'
Through the disorienting kaleidoscope of existentialist thought, Jean-Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir navigate World War II-era Paris, testing conventional boundaries of love and freedom with a novel pact of 'essential love' that allows each to take 'contingent' lovers. Armed with a deep commitment to lofty ideals, the couple dives headfirst into life's grittier side, becoming entangled in seduction, betrayal and war. As they pull others into their powerful vortex, they explode the image of philosophers as solitary armchair ponderers and define a new kind of love.
