On Sunday, November 14, Elf opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Broadway. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the traditional Gypsy Robe ceremony and brings you photo coverage below.

Based on the beloved 2003 New Line Cinema hit, ELF features songs by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer), with a book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan (The Producers, Hairspray) and Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone). ELF is directed and choreographed by Tony nominee Casey Nicholaw (The Drowsy Chaperone, Monty Python's Spamalot). ELF opened on Sunday, November 14th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street). The production will play a limited engagement for the holiday season through Sunday, January 2nd. Despite legendary costume designer Bob Mackie working on CATCH ME IF YOU CAN's 2009 Seattle tryout, he will not be part of the creative team as the show opens on Broadway. Multiple Tony Award winner William Ivey Long is now working with the show.

Today, lead producers Margo Lion and Hal Luftig announced the complete cast for the new Broadway musical CATCH ME IF YOU CAN. Tony Award winner Norbert Leo Butz will star as Carl Hanratty and Aaron Tveit will star as Frank Abagnale, Jr. alongside Tony Nominee Tom Wopat as Frank Abagnale, Sr. and Tony Nominee Kerry Butler as Brenda Strong. CATCH ME IF YOU CAN will open on Broadway on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at The Neil Simon Theatre, 250 W. 52nd Street. This new musical, created by a team of Tony winners, features a book by Terrence McNally, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, choreography by Jerry Mitchell and is directed by Jack O'Brien. Previews begin March 7, 2011.

Stltoday.com reports that the New Line Theatre in St. Louis has secured the rights to the musical Cry-Baby, which had a short run on Broadway in 2008. The musical will takes it's regional debut bow in the Spring of 2010, according to the report.

Michael Riedel reports in the New York Post this morning that make no mistake about it - Robin and the 7 Hoods, which opened at San Deigo's Old Globe Theatre last Friday, July 30, is coming to town, at least if the widow of the show's lyricist has anything to do with it. Robin and the 7 Hoods, which garnered lukewarm reviews out west, features the music of Sammy Cahn and Jimmy Van Heusen, including the songs 'My Kind of Town,' 'Call Me Irresponsible,' 'Ain't That a Kick in the Head,' 'All the Way' and more. Cahn was Frank Sinatra's preferred lyricist and member of the famed 'Rat Pack.'

On Friday, July 30, the much anticipated, Broadway-bound ROBIN AND THE 7 HOODS opened at The Old Globe Theatre in San Diego. Recent Gypsy Robe honoree, FINIAN'S RAINBOW's Lisa Gajda passed the special Broadway garment on to Michael X. Martin backstage at the Neil Simon before the opening night performance and we were there too!

Please forgive my delay, dear readers, in jotting down a few thoughts on the latest Scott Siegel enterprise, the second annual All Singin', All Dancin', which scorched the Town Hall stage last Monday night. What with a bundle of new shows to take in since then (and a biggie opening up tonight) sometimes the task of summarizing a one-night-only revue has to be set aside briefly to write about new, longer-running productions.
