New Ohio and Irt Theaters Announce Two World Premieres, 4/28-6/14

Two years ago, The New Ohio Theatre and IRT Theater (new neighbors in the historic Archive Building on Christopher Street) kicked-off their exciting new developing and presenting initiative: the Archive Residency. The Archive Residency offers select independent theatre companies a two-year commitment of space, artistic support, and institutional continuity for the development and presentation of a new work.

The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center at the CUNY Graduate Center has announced the complete line-up of its inaugural PEN World Voices International Play Festival, held April 28, 29, and 30th, 2014. With each writer hailing from a different world region as classified by the United Nations, the International Play Festival generates a conversation on art, politics, dreams, war, and philosophy meant to share with American audiences a rich awareness of a greater global dialogue.

Performances begin tonight for Roundabout Theatre Company's third annual Roundabout Underground Reading Series. In her terrific new play TRUDY AND MAX IN LOVE---now having its World Premiere performances at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa through January 29---writer-actress Zoe Kazan (Ruby Sparks) puts an engaging millennial spin on the typical cute-boy-meets-cute-girl story. While, true, the situations---and the complications---presented here feel somewhat familiar to the genre, the dramedy's enjoyable execution---particularly in the hands of its impressive cast of superb actors---make it, ultimately, a captivating play that's winsomely fresh and oh-so-current.
