The DCASE Theater and Dance series showcases critically-acclaimed local, national and international theater, dance and multi-disciplinary artists - often in newly-commissioned works, Chicago and world premieres.

The second play in MALIBU PLAYHOUSE'S 2013-2014 season will be the West Coast Premiere of Belfry by Billy Roche, opening Friday, January 31, 2014. The play will be directed by Veronica Brady and stars Michael Hyland, Rebekah Tripp and 2010 American Idol contestant Carson Higgins. 'Twas the night before Christmas, and through the Houston area people were shopping, cursing their error. Why did they wait for the last few minutes to buy so many holiday presents? Cozy, at home, two theater enthusiasts discussed theatrical amusements. There were funny shows, and sad ones. Some had music and joviality, while others encouraged civic responsibility. But, sadly, the list of dream shows to see just grew and grew. Wouldn't it be great if Houston produced just a few? They may have been done, but not since we started seeing everything. Last night, November 14, Second Stage opened its much-anticipated production of Little Miss Sunshine. This new musical comedy is based on the film of the same name by Michael Arndt. It was adapted for the stage by Tony Award-winning team James Lapine, who wrote the book, and William Finn, who wrote the lyrics and music. Profiles Theatre announces that actor Paul Dillon returns to the role he originated in the 1992 world premiere of Hellcab by Will Kern for Profiles' holiday season revival of their hit production. Once again, Profiles Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox returns to direct a cast of 34 with Dillon joining the cast as the beleaguered cab driver and ensemble member Eric Burgher assistant directing. For the most part, a large chunk of Generation Y is out of college and in the workforce. According to some, we are the young hopefuls that were born between the early 1980s through the early 1990s. Others push the birth dates back as far as the 2000s. Either way, our voice is gaining in strength, and we're making our mark. Sadly, our mark is one of frustration. A recent study by Office Angels shows that 27 percent of 25-34 year olds are unhappy in their current job, and according to Moster.com 55 percent of Generation Y employees see their current employer as a mere stopping off point in their career path. Luckily, Leslye Headland, author of BACHELORETTE (which was adapted for film in 2012 and starred Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, and Rebel Wilson) once worked as Harvey Weinstein's personal assistant and understands this plight. She has crafted a deft comedy that addresses workplace dissatisfaction with her 2008 play ASSISTANCE.

Dallas Theater Center launches its 2013-14 season with A Raisin in the Sun. Tre Garrett of Fort Worth's Jubilee Theatre will make his directorial debut at DTC with this Tony Award-winning play. A Raisin in the Sun begins with a Pay-What-You-Can performance tonight, September 13 and runs through Sunday, October 27 at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre in the AT&T Performing Arts Center.

In anticipation of the new NBC hit comedy sitcom based on the hit off-Broadway play Assistance, Black Lab Theatre opens its doors on September 19, 2013, with the regional premiere of the original work -- a hilarious single act play that revolves around entry level, 20-somethings frantically trying to please their hellacious boss as calls and drama ring in. The play's TV adaptation (to star Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina) hits the TV's on NBC later this season with Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions producing and play's author Leslye Headland signed on as chief writer. Headland herself began her career as the assistant to legendary Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and captures the angst of a new generation trying to hit the financial big time, one post-it at a time. This 'The Office' meets 'The Devil Wears Prada' Off-Broadway comedy about ambition-driven Generation-Y staffers will run at Wildfish Theater in the Galleria Area September 19 through Oct 5 at 8pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays plus a Monday Industry Night on Sept 30.

Black Lab Theatre's 2013-2014 season kicks off this fall with the razor-sharp, Off-Broadway comedy Assistance by Leslye Headland, a scathing look at megabuck corporate office politics through the hilariously ambition-driven eyes of Generation-Y staffers. Black Lab's regional premiere of Assistance comes just ahead of the play's much anticipated TV adaptation starring Krysten Ritter and Alfred Molina to be produced for NBC by Will Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions with the play's author, Leslye Headland signed on to scribe. Headland wrote Assistance (Greed) as part of her "Seven Deadly Sins" series, and comes on the heels of Bachelorette, another hit play in the series that recently received a feature film release in 2012 staring Kirsten Dunst.
