The centerpiece of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s Lincoln Center engagement is the Ailey Spirit Gala on Thursday, June 16. The evening’s Honorary Chair is Grammy® Emmy® and Tony® Award-winning actress, singer and producer Cynthia Erivo, most recently seen in Apple TV+’s anthology series Roar.

On May 20 and 22 at the Carnegie Music Hall in Carnegie, Resonance Works presents a reimagined version of Giuseppe Verdi's heartbreaking opera masterpiece Rigoletto set in 1930s Hollywood.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater will complete its coast-to-coast North American tour at NJPAC Friday-Sunday, May 6-8, 2022. Ailey’s dancers will move audiences in a program celebrating Artistic Director Robert Battle’s 10th anniversary, along with a diverse repertory of premieres, timeless favorites, and Ailey’s American masterpiece Revelations.

The Washington National Opera has gathered a company of first rate singers for a portmanteau of four, one-act operas called Written in Stone. Unfortunately, their fine skills and exceptional voices cannot make silk purses out of scores, libretti, and orchestrations that evade aesthetics, emphasize negatives, and ignore the connection implicit in musical theatre between the notes and the text. This world première requires an orchestra to seem to be playing a piece of music that is not the same piece of music as the singers are singing. The last time this many groups of unfriendly instruments had a gig in a first run house was probably PDQ Bach's last show in Carnegie Hall. Gesamtkunstwerk this isn't, and it lasts for two and a half hours.

Upcoming offerings include: Ailey All Access, a returning online initiative featuring a series of performance broadcasts January 31 – June 20; a virtual educational performance experience will introduce young audiences to the magic of Ailey; Ailey Extension's dance and fitness classes program invites fans around the world to join in the dance with new workshops; and viewers are encouraged to explore the life and work of a brilliant and enigmatic genius through feature-length documentary portrait, AILEY.
