2015 New York Hot Jazz Fest to Kick Off May 3

Following the success of the previous two festivals, the 3rd Annual New York Hot Jazz Festival -- produced by the impresario Michael 'Misha' Katsobashvili, performer Bria Skonberg, and composer/producer Patrick Soluri (of Prohibition Productions and The Salon) -- returns to The Players this year and promises some of the biggest stars of the Hot Jazz and swing scenes in a summit of uptown and downtown talent spanning three generations.

Baltimore Symphony Orchestra to Open Season with All-Star CANDIDE, 6/11

Baltimore, Md. (March 23, 2015) — For the conclusion of the 2014-2015 season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop lead the BSO premiere of Leonard Bernstein's comedic operetta Candide on June 11 at the Music Center at Strathmore, and June 12 through June 14 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The BSO announced today that the semi-staged production of Candide will be directed by Garnett Bruce and features an all-star cast including Peter Sagal, the host of NPR's weekly current events quiz show “Wait Wait…Don't Tell Me,” and Judy Kaye, Tony Award-winning star of The Phantom of the Opera. Rounding out the cast are Keith Jameson, Lauren Snouffer, Joshua Hopkins, Mark Diamond, Marie Lenormand, Stephanie Sadownik, Curtis Bannister, Patrick Cook, Andrew McLaughlin, Melissa Wimbish and Lewis Shaw.

At a standing-room-only affair at Sanders Theatre, Longy School of Music of Bard College presented their second annual Sistema Side by Side Celebration on Friday, March 20, under the baton of the orchestra's newly appointed Music Director Jorge Soto. The evening was part of an ongoing series of events at Longy that pairs students (aged 8-14) from El Sistema-inspired music programs throughout Massachusetts with members of the Longy Conservatory Orchestra in rehearsals and performances featuring nationally renowned conductors and guest artists. (February 23, 2015) - The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop present the Family Concert Series program "Mr. Smith's Composition" today, March 21, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The concert will also include selections from Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Music Director Marin Alsop, protege of the famous Leonard Bernstein's Young People's Concerts, will share fascinating, age-appropriate insight into Beethoven's creative process for developing that well-known masterpiece. The program also takes the audience into the mind of the composer and narrator Gregory Smith. Prior to the concert, patrons are invited to the Inspiration Zone: beginning at 9:45 a.m., the Meyerhoff lobby will be abuzz with fun pre-concert activities such as face-painting and chamber music performances by members of the Baltimore Symphony Youth Orchestras.
