BWW Review: Bootleg Shakespeare HENRY VI, PART 3 at Taffety Punk is Theater Without a Photo BWW Review: Bootleg Shakespeare HENRY VI, PART 3 at Taffety Punk is Theater Without a Net
by Pamela Roberts - Jul 19, 2018

Taffety Punk Theatre Company's Bootleg Shakespeare production HENRY VI, PART 3 is performance without a net - exciting, dangerous, riveting, and raw. Bootleg Shakespeare isn't designed to be polished or perfect, it's designed to be fresh and immediate. And it delivered. What's more amazing? The actors arrived at 10:00 am Monday with roles assigned and lines memorized. That's it. Working together under the direction of Taffety Punk Artistic Director Marcus Kyd, over the next few hours the 32 actors DIY'ed the production and were on stage in front of an audience at 7:30 pm. There were minimal props, lights, and costumes-but the red and white paper lapel flowers told us exactly what we needed to know when every epic battle scene and every word of Shakespeare's text was performed.

BWW Review: Pointless Theatre's IMOGEN Creatively Spotlights a Female Star of Shakesp Photo BWW Review: Pointless Theatre's IMOGEN Creatively Spotlights a Female Star of Shakespeare
by Barbara Johnson - Jan 21, 2018

Shakespeare's CYMBELINE may be named for the play's king, but his daughter Imogen is the real star of the tale, the center of the action. Pointless Theatre's original adaptation by playwright-director Charlie Marie McGrath corrects the misnomer in a version entitled IMOGEN, which uses creative choreography and shadow puppetry to captivating effect. It's overly long, but it's Shakespeare as you likely haven't seen it before, which is saying something.

First produced in New York City in 1938, the play enjoyed four subsequent Broadway revivals, making it one of the best-known pieces of classic American theater. Lost Nation's production features a 19-member company under the direction of Kim Allen Bent.

BWW Reviews: Lost Nation's THE CRUCIBLE is Frightening and Powerful
by Erin McIntyre - Oct 13, 2013

Arthur Miller's THE CRUCIBLE is now playing at Lost Nation Theater in Montpelier, VT. Based on actual people and events surrounding the Salem witch trials of 1692 and 1693, Miller's play examines social paranoia and judicial power, themes that struck a particularly strong chord in the era of McCarthyism, and continue to be relevant in today's security-obsessed climate. Despite mixed reviews from critics on its first Broadway run in 1953, the play won the Tony Award for Best Play, and earned Beatrice Straight a Best Featured Actress Tony Award for her portrayal of Elizabeth Proctor. Four subsequent Broadway revivals (including a star-studded 2002 production featuring Liam Neeson and Laura Linney) have cemented THE CRUCIBLE as an American classic.
