For its 39th season Undermain Theatre is returning to a full season of professional live performances with a diverse array of exciting productions to inspire and enrich the live theater experience in Dallas.

Skylight Music Theatre announced the full cast for the Wisconsin premiere of Dennis DeYoung’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame, running May 20 through June 12, 2022. Performances take place in the beautiful Cabot Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center, 158 N. Broadway, in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

This May, Broadway fans will be treated to an exciting lineup of new albums, concerts, television shows, and movies to binge. I had the opportunity to see PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL, during its visit to The Bushnell in Hartford. Based on one of Hollywood’s most beloved 1990’s movies that launched America’s sweetheart, Julia Roberts, into stardom. Fans of the movie will be happy to see that the story hasn’t dramatically changed and includes all the fun, quotable lines (like, “Big Mistake. Huge!”) and unforgettable moments, like the spicy piano scene.

The Springer Opera House presents the heart-warming Southern classic, Steel Magnolias, from April 29 through May 15 on the Springer's main stage. Infused with heart and humor, Steel Magnolias is a beloved story of the enduring friendship of six eccentric small-town women who gather weekly at Truvy's Beauty Spot. They prove they are made of steel as they share their hopes, dreams, and tragedies.

Pretty Woman, The Musical has shimmered onto the stage at Baltimore's Hippodrome and landed squarely on it's Jimmy Choo'd feet. A bold and brassy tune fest, it's an homage to the 1990 film starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere and this version's cast is definitely up to the inevitable comparisons.

An illustrious creative team is at the helm of PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL, with direction and choreography by two-time Tony Award®-winner Jerry Mitchell, music and lyrics by Grammy®-winner Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance, and book by the movie's legendary director Garry Marshall and screenwriter J. F. Lawton.  But is that enough to make this stage adaptation successful?  That depends.

Peacock announced today that three-time Emmy Award-nominee Betty Gilpin (GLOW, The Hunt) will star in the leading role of the highly-anticipated drama series MRS. DAVIS, from Tara Hernandez and Damon Lindelof. Gilpin will play a nun who goes to battle against an all-powerful Artificial Intelligence.

Pretty Woman the musical had its opening night in Minneapolis yesterday at the Orpheum Theatre presented by the Hennepin Theatre Trust.

There is always an inherent risk to taking a classic movie and trying to redo it in some way. That risk pays off with PRETTY WOMAN: THE MUSICAL. This production has charm, humor, and that all-essential romance we love from the film. Missing out on this touring show would be a big mistake. Big. Huge.

It may not be a musical anyone especially asked for, but a winning cast and some splashy production makes this one a winner anyway.
