MUSIC THEATRE PHILLY is thrilled to announce the opening of its new full-service Performing Arts Center in downtown, Philadelphia.

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDC Foundation), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces that acclaimed Director Kenny Leon will be honored with the distinguished 2016-2017 'Mr. Abbott' Award for the outstanding artistry and creativity of his forty-year (and counting) career.

Temple Theaters, with support from the George and Joy Abbott Center for Musical Theater, presents Lucky Guy: A Staged Reading, January 22-24 in the Randall Theater. Written by Willard Beckham, Lucky Guy is the tale of a singing cowboy who has the chance to become a star. The reading, starring Patrick Bishop and Rebecca Joy, is directed by Maggie Anderson and Dann Dunn, with musical direction by Gina Giachero.        

Acclaimed Director James Lapine was honored with the 2015 "Mr. Abbott" Award for the outstanding artistry and creativity of his forty-year (and counting) career on Monday October 19th.

DC Foundation is pleased to announce that Andrew Rannells will host the "Mr. Abbott" Award Gala honoring James Lapine on Monday, October 19, 2015. The event will include special performances by Bernadette Peters, Christine Ebersole, Christian Borle, and Marin Mazzie with appearances by Stephen Sondheim, William Finn, and others. Directed by Leigh Silverman, the "Mr. Abbott" Award Gala will take place at Stage 48 (605 West 48th Street). The event will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The award was presented at a gala event at B.B. King on May 13 with four-time Tony Award-winning playwright and actor Harvey Fierstein, a frequent collaborator of Jerry Mitchell (and bookwriter of Kinky Boots), to emcee a tribute written by six-time Emmy Award winner Bruce Vilanch. Grammy Award-winner Cyndi Lauper, who wrote the music & lyrics for Kinky Boots, introduced a number from Kinky Boots included in the tribute. Harris, a member of The League of American Theaters and Producers who served on the Board of Directors of the Carbonell Awards from 2001-2008, including two terms as president, during which time he was instrumental in rising the profile of the awards and designing its current voting structure.
