Due to the likely snowstorm this weekend, the start time of Pixar in Concert scheduled for Friday, January 22, 8:00pm at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall will be changed to 6:00pm. In addition, the performance will be without intermission, allowing audience and performers to leave by 7:30 pm. The current forecast projects a start time of precipitation falling in Baltimore between 8 pm and 9 pm on Friday.

The Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service has partnered with Newcomb Art Gallery at Tulane University to present the largest, most comprehensive Newcomb Pottery collection to tour the country in nearly three decades. Women, Art and Social Change: The Newcomb Pottery Enterprise will be on display at the Grand Rapids Art Museum from January 31, 2016 through April 17, 2016 before continuing on its nine-city national tour.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) today announced a residency during the 2015-16 season with composer Anna Clyne. The residency will be comprised of three visits with the Orchestra, collaborative education activities with Baltimore City students, participation in a V-log on BSOMusic.org, a visit to an OrchKids school site, a collaboration with the Baltimore Museum of Art, and two performances of her orchestral music, culminating in the world premiere of a new work, commissioned by Bonnie McElveen-Hunter for the BSO and Music Director Marin Alsop in honor of Baltimore philanthropists Robert E. Meyerhoff and Rheda Becker. Clyne, 35, known for her collaborations with cutting edge visual artists, dancers, and artists of multiple genres, will compose a piece for full orchestra that will be inspired by the contemporary art collection at the Baltimore Museum of Art. The work will have its world premiere at The Music Center at Strathmore on May 7, 2016 and will be performed at Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall on May 8, 2016.

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is partnering with WTMD 89.7 to present a new concert series, PULSE, pairing members of the orchestra with prominent indie bands to explore musical connections that cross genres. The bands and concert dates are:Dawes (Thursday, September 24, 2015); Wye Oak (Thursday, November 12, 2015); Dr. Dog (Thursday, March 24, 2016); and The Lone Bellow (Thursday, April 28, 2016). Each show opens with a performance by members of the orchestra conducted by BSO Assistant Conductor Nicholas Hersh followed by a set featuring the headliner band, and will culminate with the two groups performing on stage together.

(March 23, 2015) - For the conclusion of the 2014-2015 season, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and Music Director Marin Alsop lead the BSO premiere of Leonard Bernstein's comedic operetta Candide tonight, June 11 at the Music Center at Strathmore, and June 12 through June 14 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall. The BSO announced today that the semi-staged production of Candide will be directed by Garnett Bruce and features an all-star cast including Peter Sagal, the host of NPR's weekly current events quiz show "Wait Wait…Don't Tell Me," and Judy Kaye, Tony Award-winning star of The Phantom of the Opera. Rounding out the cast are Keith Jameson, Lauren Snouffer, Joshua Hopkins, Mark Diamond, Marie Lenormand, Stephanie Sadownik, Curtis Bannister, Patrick Cook, Andrew McLaughlin, Melissa Wimbish and Lewis Shaw.
