After conducting H&H in sold-out performances of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony in 2011, Richard Egarr returns to Symphony Hall to breathe life into another great work by the composer, his masterful Symphony No. 7. This continues a cycle of Beethoven Symphonies that Egarr brings to H&H, beginning in 2008 with Beethoven Symphony No. 8 and continuing with Beethoven Symphony No. 4 in 2014. Renowned as one of the finest period clarinetists in the world, H&H principal Eric Hoeprich brings Mozart's playful clarinet concerto to life. Egarr and Hoeprich will take your breath away with their virtuosic and powerful interpretations of these great compositions.

ACME, the American Contemporary Music Ensemble performs on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30pm. presented by The Morgan Library and Museum (225 Madison Avenue) and the Polish Cultural Institute New York. ACME pays homage to the late, largely unsung Polish composer Mieczys?aw Weinberg with an elegiac chamber music program that includes his exquisite Piano Quintet Op. 18, plus Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67 and selections from Henryk Górecki's String Quartet No. 3.

Boston Baroque Announces Upcoming Season

Three-time Grammy-nominee Boston Baroque, under the direction of Martin Pearlman, one of this country's leading interpreters of Baroque and Classical music on period and modern instruments, has announced its 40th anniversary season program for 2013 - 2014. The season is packed with masterpieces such as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Handel's Messiah, Rameau's opera La Guirlande and Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. And, with Monteverdi's Il ritorno d'Ulisse in patria, Boston Baroque continues a tradition of presenting rarely-performed operas from the Baroque and Classical periods.

Joseph Rescigno will conduct a rare staging of Rossini's opera buffa, La gazzetta, ossia Il matrimonio per concorso ('The Newspaper, or The Wedding Contest'), presented by the New England Conservatory at Boston's Paramount Theater, April 6-9, 2013. The fully staged production with all-student cast and orchestra will be directed by NEC's Chair of Opera Studies, Joshua Major.

NEC Opera to Present American Premiere of New Critical Edition of Rossini's La Gazzetta, 4/6-9

New England Conservatory will present the American premiere of Rossini's comic opera, La Gazzetta (The Newspaper) in the 2002 critical edition by Philip Gossett and Fabrizio Scipioni, April 6-9, 2013 at the Paramount Theater in Boston. Not only will this production mark the first time the critical edition has been performed in the United States, but it will feature the world premiere of the Act I quintet recovered in 2011 in the Library of the Conservatory of Palermo. The fully staged production with all-student cast and orchestra will be conducted by Joseph Rescigno, Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor of Florentine Opera Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and directed by Chair of Opera Studies Joshua Major. The leading women's roles, Lisetta and Doralice, will be sung (April 6, 8 performances) by soprano Soyoung Park and mezzo soprano Jaime Korkos, currently candidates for the Artist Diploma in Opera.
