HOUSTON (July 1, 2016) – The Houston Symphony is teaming up with the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and the Houston Area Urban League to offer free music lessons to hundreds of underserved K-2 Houston Independent School District students in the Kashmere, Wheatley, Scarborough and Booker T. Washington High School feeder patterns as part of the 2016 Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation Summer Reading Challenge Camps.
On Monday 23 November, The National Youth Theatre hosted a fundraising gala 'Stars and Stripes Thanksgiving Feast' at The Bloomsbury Hotel, attended by current NYT performers, past alumni and VIP guests. Gore Vidal's The Best Man a political drama is the current production of the Olathe Civic Theatre Association in Olathe, Kan. The play, which opened on November 7, runs through November 21. John Robinson directs the OCTA production stating in the playbill that it had been 15 years since he had done drama and had sworn he would never do drama again. This survey exhibition encompasses forty years of her activities as an artist creating performances, videos, and photographs; her position as the founder and director of the non-profit space Franklin Furnace; her collaboration with other women to form the art/rock group, DISBAND; and her key role in the activist feminist art group, the Guerrilla Girls. A concurrent exhibition 'The Personal is Political: Martha Wilson and MKE' will be on view at the Portrait Society Gallery, opening today, June 7, with an artists reception that Friday from 5 to 8 p.m., with an artists talk at 7 p.m.
