The Summer Festival, August 9-19, 2018, is the culmination of 5 weeks of preparation by Young Company students and their professional Directors, Music Directors, Choreographers, Stage Managers, and Design Team. Performed by actors in grades 4-12, The Young Company Summer Festival includes 6 fully staged productions: family friendly Madagascar Jr., upbeat and classic Footloose, and the hilarious Shrek. High School Students continue the fun with the heartwarming musical Big Fish, as well as The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz-a modern take on the classic, beloved story, and finally the extraordinary adventures of Pippin!
Based on the book by North Carolina's own Daniel Wallace and the hit movie - Big Fish tells the story of a father with incredible, larger-than-life stories and his son who is determined to find the truth behind his father's epic tales.
An endearing musical with an even more endearing story, BIG FISH is a winsome stage production that is currently making its Orange County regional debut at Anaheim's Chance Theater through July 29, 2018 helmed by its own resident executive artistic director Oanh Nguyen. Filled with hard-to-believe, imaginative tales that skew more wonderful rather than odd, this cute, warm hug of a musical is based on the 1998 novel by Daniel Wallace that also inspired a 2003 big-screen adaptation directed by Tim Burton. For Chance Theater's scaled-down, small space iteration, Nguyen has fashioned a relatively appealing production that is generous with heart and admirable in spirit.

BoHo Theatre is excited to announce its 15th Anniversary season under the leadership of incoming Artistic Director Stephen Schellhardt. The company's 2019 season will include a trio of stories focusing on characters in search of human connections. "These three shows are stories that need to be told now, by BoHo," Schellhardt says. "Experiencing these shows in an intimate space, which is one of BoHo's signature strengths, will help illuminate the central stories and human relationships." Schellhardt has also signaled BoHo's continuing commitment to being an incubator for diverse, up-and-coming Chicago talent by creating safe, supportive artistic environments for our artists to experiment and grow. Thirteen new independent feature projects from the U.S., Cuba, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, and Palestine have been selected for the 2018 Sundance Institute Directors and Screenwriters Labs. At the Directors Lab (May 28-June 21), filmmakers will rehearse, shoot and edit key scenes from their scripts, working closely with industry advisors, actors, and production crews to help drive creative growth via an immersive and hands-on experience at the Sundance Resort in Utah. The Screenwriters Lab from June 23-28 fosters a similar environment of dynamic inspiration as participants focus on the art and craft of screenplay writing with one-on-one support from Institute advisors . Overseen by Feature Film Program Founding Director Michelle Satter and Labs Director Ilyse McKimmie, the Labs begin a year-round continuum of customized support for Fellows, which can include creative mentorship, granting, and guidance from industry professionals.
