BWW Review: THE JUNGLE, Playhouse Theatre

Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson's play had such a good reception during its run at the Young Vic Theatre back in the winter that it has transferred across the river to the Playhouse Theatre in the West End, bringing its cast with it (along with some additions). It is based on Murphy and Robertson's experience of being out in Calais, witnessing the refugees' plight first-hand. While they were there, they set up 'Good Chance', which allowed residents to express themselves through the arts - its key words are disrupt, explore, innovate, welcome, connect and create.

THE JUNGLE Wins South Bank Sky Arts Award

The Jungle by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson has won the South Bank Sky Arts Award in the 2018 Theatre category. The production is set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp, the Calais Jungle, which in 2015, became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people. A National Theatre and Young Vic co-production with Good Chance Theatre, The Jungle is directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin. It is currently in previews at the Playhouse Theatre in London's West End, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold, following a sell-out run at the Young Vic in December 2017.

THE JUNGLE Holds Performance In Recognition Of World Refugee Day

The Jungle, currently in previews at the Playhouse Theatre, will today recognise World Refugee Day with all tickets to the evening performance offered to refugee charities, arts partners and guests from the cultural sphere. The production is set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp, the Calais Jungle, which in 2015, became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people. A National Theatre and Young Vic co-production with Good Chance Theatre, The Jungle is written by Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson and directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin. It transfers to the West End, produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Tom Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold following a sell-out run at the Young Vic in December 2017.

THE JUNGLE Comes To St. Ann's Warehouse For American Premiere

St. Ann's Warehouse will present the U.S. Premiere of The Jungle, the immensely acclaimed Good Chance Theatre co-production with the National Theatre and Young Vic. Currently opening a five-month run at London's Playhouse Theatre on the West End, The Jungle comes to St. Ann's beginning December 4, 2018.

The production is set in Europe's largest unofficial refugee camp, the Calais Jungle, which in 2015, became a temporary home for more than 10,000 people. Previewing from 16 June, The Jungle will have an Opening Night on 5 July at the Playhouse Theatre. The first wave of tickets will go on general sale on 15 March.

The National Theatre Announces a New Season Of Talks and Events

Talks and events at the National Theatre start this year with The Jungle - exploring the issues on 6 January. The talk will explore the issues raised in the play as well as the refugee situation more widely with panel members from Good Chance Theatre directors Joe Robertson and Joe Murphy, Nico Stevens (COO, Help Refugees) and Lord Dubs (who sponsored an amendment to the Immigration Act which allows unaccompanied refugee children to settle in the UK).

BWW Review: THE JUNGLE, Young Vic

The Jungle is the debut play from Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson, founders of humanitarian theatre company Good Chance. Alongside a team of volunteers, they built their first theatre in the refugee and migrant camp in Calais, in 2015. They conceived it as a place for people to enter and express themselves; to escape or confront the situations they were in.
